We loved our stay in Sanity's Sake! It managed to be very spacious as well as cozy and charming. Everything we needed was provided and more. Josh, our landlord, was delightfully friendly and informative. He even shared gifts of smoked Sockeye Salmon that he had pulled from a stream with his net a few days before. The bright pumpkin and raspberry walls surprised us at first, but by the end of our stay, we found them endearing. There was lots of hot water, multitudes of towels, a great assortment of kitchen equipment, and nice shampoo, etc. We enjoyed the library of interesting books and games. We recommend a car if you stay here, and reserve rentals far ahead as they were sold out. Our taxi rides became a major expense. The iron-brown well water necessitated bringing drinking water. Bears are an issue, although we never saw one. We loved Princess Lea, the Black Lab, who guarded us. There us a daunting, steep stairway to the bedroom. This is a wonderful home in a magical place.

This is a unique home that is perfect for the right guest. If you are in Gustavus for hunting or fishing, this might be the place for you! IMPORTANT NOTES: - Do not follow the map in the listing. Contact the host ahead of time for instructions - You cannot flush toilet paper at this home. - There is no cell service. - If you have mobility issues, this is not for you. The path is not maintained, so you cannot access the steps to the deck and have to climb. The bedroom is at the top of stairs that are very difficult to use. - The path is boggy and overgrown, so wear boots and jeans. - You'll need access to a truck because the road is not well maintained. - There is no ventilation upstairs, and the sun hits the sleeping area early in the morning. - The only ventilation downstairs is to open the front and back doors. Be prepared for mosquitos, flies, and a sweet visiting dog. - The neighbor is nice and helpful. Know that Gustavus does not have zoning or building codes, so anything goes.
