The Perch — or "Posada de Pajaros" — is a spacious, airy, newly-built home on a slice of mountainside hanging over the Buena Vista river and the sweep of the Pacific Ocean. Breezes are nearly constant. The views are varied and assertive. Iguanas peer back at you from treetops, troops of monkeys traipse overhead, and birds and butterflies sweep by in abundance. A place to relax, feel at home while away, and a basecamp from which to explore stunning Guanacaste. The architect's vision for this house envisioned a tree-house/bird's nest, with breezes passing from all directions and providing a natural respite from the Guanacaste heat. And this brand new house works just as intended — no matter what time of day, it is cool and inviting in the larger living room and the deck overlooking the valley. We designed this house for friends and families to deeply relax together — views to enjoy together and gardens to relax in; a large kitchen to cook together in; and plenty of corners to spread people around when everyone needs a bit of space. A pool with accompanying poolhouse provides shade and refreshment outside, while air-conditioned bedrooms provide privacy and quiet space. The downstairs "sunrise" suite includes a kitchenette and spectacular panoramic dawn views. The house is completely private, quiet, and sits 6 kilometers/3.5 miles northwest of Samara. While the map shows an "airport" in the valley below the house, it's just a grass runway with one or two gyrocopters a day. NOTE: The new cabana — which includes the fourth bedroom — is functional but not 100% complete yet. NOTE: Unmonitored cameras are installed at exterior entryways for your security.

The Perch was fabulous!! The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. The outdoor space was beautiful and well maintained. The guide book was extremely helpful including a recommendation to El Coyote restaurant - some of the best meals we’ve ever had! The water crossing was no problem. We enjoyed kayaking/snorkeling and SUP in Samara, the beautiful and quiet beaches to the north, zip lining, and caving in Barra Hondas National park. It was so nice to come back to relax in the pool and listen to the monkeys.
The Perch is an amazing home in a beautiful location! We were a family of 8 (all adults) and the home was perfect! The beds were comfortable, everyone had some privacy and yet the common areas were welcoming and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. We spent a lot of time by the pool. The wildlife was amazing...lizards, howler monkeys and iguanas were regular "guests" (outside) and we thoroughly enjoyed watching them. The beaches were close by and beautiful. The only disappointment was the local restaurant so highly recommended by Edo and Diego - El Coyote - was closed. A 4x4 vehicle is a MUST as the roads are rough and you need some height to cross the river. Everyone was super responsive and friendly from the pool guys, the gardeners and the handyman. Bring bug spray, LOTS of sunscreen and a flashlight - it gets super dark! I will (and already have) recommend this place to anyone who asks!! Thanks for an amazing week!
THE PERCH REVIEW Our stay at The Perch was truly amazing! The property is absolutely gorgeous. The house is beautifully designed and tastefully furnished, stocked with all the essentials you need for your trip. We loved taking advantage of the outdoor spaces, which allowed us to enjoy the stunning views and the incredible sounds of Costa Rica. Spending time by the pool, listening to howler monkeys, and watching the birds, iguanas, and various animals that visited the property was one of our favorite highlights. The location is perfect for seeing a large part of the Gold Coast. The house is close to two beaches and a mini grocery store. The nearby town of Samara offers plenty of activities, restaurants, shopping, and more. During our trip, we explored from the north in Nosara to the south at Punta Islita and Coyote Beach. Communication with the host was excellent and first-class. Highly recommend—this was a great experience all around!
Edo and Diego were great hosts, they went above and beyond with their communication and helping us through our trip in Samara, the guide book they have inside the house is literally gold. We did the sunset horse trip and kayaking trip and they did not disappoint. The house like other reviews state, was way better in person, totally worth it, would recommend and definitely come back
Beautifully designed, unique property with views right out to the sea. Tucked away, very peaceful and equipped with everything you need. Our kids loved the fact we had to drive through a river to reach it! Close to Samara beach which was perfect for our 2 children to have fun bodyboarding. This place provided us to the perfect relaxing end to our Costa Rican adventure.

The house is one mile from the village of Esterones, which has a convenience store, an excellent restaurant and a hardware store. It is 3.5 miles from Samara, which has many shops. Bikes or SUV's recommended.

Josh and I are good friends who fell in love with this part of Costa Rica during the pandemic. We bought some land and built this house for both our families to enjoy, as well as friends and AIRBNB guests.
