Casa Matriz makes a great base for discovering this delightful city.
The house is located in Matriz right behind the main church, Igreja Matriz.
The neighbourhood is mostly residential, low key, quaint with delightful old buildings of historical importance great for photography or sketching.
Around the corner is a nice Vegan & Vegetarian cafe Casa do Chá. They have a nice patio in a tropical garden. Sushi can be found at Cafe International near the marina, or for a traditional Portuguese restaurant there is Medalhas restaurant. The local market only 10 minutes walk has many cafes and bakeries to choose from with a small park to stroll through.
Horta City is small but filled with lots of interesting surprises around each corner that makes an ideal walking holiday.

Car rental option: There is street parking near the front door of the house but it’s public parking when available.
Walking option: also a good way to get around shopping, the waterfront, restaurants can be reached in 5 minutes walking from the house.
Taxis option: a taxi can be hired by the day and or trip and your host can organise a driver to pick up your group right from the door and give you an island tour.
