Cuckney House is located on the Welbeck estate. Nestled in the heart of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, Welbeck extends to some 15,000 acres, straddling the borders of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
Welbeck Abbey, within the heart of the estate, was initially founded as a monastery in 1153. After the dissolution of the monasteries, the Abbey was bought by Bess of Hardwick’s youngest son, Sir Charles Cavendish. It has since passed through the family and became the country seat to a succession of Dukes of Portland. The estate is owned by the descendants of the Dukes of Portland and their private family home - Welbeck Abbey is open a few weeks a year for tours.
Cuckney House is on the outskirts of Cuckney Village, which has great country walks and a gastro pub. A few minutes' drive away is The Courtyard at Welbeck, with an award-winning Farm Shop and cafe (as seen on Channel 5 Britains' Poshest Farm Shops), Art Gallery and Museum.
Due to the country setting - a car is recommended.
