Elia House is located in a wonderful Village called Aptera, which is a great starting point for your excursions! Being next to Crete's main road, you can reach Chania city with a 10km drive and the nearby beaches Kalami and Kalyves with a 3km and 6km drive respectively. And if you don't feel like driving, then you can explore the Ancient city of Aptera located in our village and enjoy a traditional Cretan meal at the local taverns (taverns and the mini-market is 600 meters from the Villa). Our home is a traditional Cretan house, with a large private garden looking over the Cretan Mountains. You will find a bedroom with a double bed, and in the living room we have another double bed. Also you will find a fully-equipped kitchen and a fireplace.

房东在约定地点接我们到达房屋。房子很漂亮。可惜两天的暴风雨让我们只能待在屋子里，屋子的地面进水积水了，只能不停的拖地。房东回应非常及时，带来了拖把和毛巾，还有丰富的食物。天气太冷，我们试着点了壁炉，可惜烟太大，木材也潮湿了，只能用空调取暖了，房东说这样的暴风雨天气他几乎从来没见过。这次运气有点差，不过会给我们留下深刻印象。 房子缺点是床比较硬。 下次会选个阳光明媚的时间来，邻居有很多很多猫，还有狗……我很喜欢动物。
Ιδανικό για όσους θέλουν την ηρεμία κ την απλότητα στο χώρο, μέσα στην φύση σε ένα αυθεντικό μικρό παραδοσιακό πετρόχτιστο σπίτι. Μινιμαλισμός κ ηρεμία με εύκολη πρόσβαση στον κύριο οδικό άξονα κ όμορφες κοντινές περιηγήσεις.
Very responsive host. Beautiful views! Great recommendations. Wi-Fi didn’t work whilst we were there but other than that it was perfect!
Lovely traditional rural Cretan cottage with great views across to the White Mountains. Comfortable bed, good shower and friendly local cats. We were very happy to stay there.
We had a lovely stay in Aptera. We were looking for something off grid but within a 20 minute walk to a shop and tavernas with beautiful scenery. And with the added bonus of sea views and a great shared pool available on the other side. The farmhouse is just as it looks in the pictures and the host was helpful although sometimes slow to respond to us during our stay. And Aptera is a great base to explore Chania region from. Things to note as this might not be for you - there are lots of cats and dogs in the surrounding properties. Very friendly but very present so you need to be a lover of those animals. Unfortunately they also tend to bark during the night so can wake you up. Also there is Wifi but it's very poor signal and the water pressure in the shower isn't great. But we are happy with more off grid style vacations.

Megala Chorafia / Aptera is a picturesque village built on a hilltop. It is surrounded by greenery and offers panoramic views of the White Mountains and the Aegean being just 11 km from the city of Chania.
The village developed in two cores: Around the junction that leads to some traditional villages of Apokoronas (Samonas Provarma, Pens, knives) and next to the ruins of the ancient city of Aptera (the ruins are spread on two hills).
While on holiday in Megala Chorafia you can go swimming or enjoy the sandy beaches of Kalyves (3 km) and Almirida (8 km). For food, you can try the traditional tavernas located in the first core. There is also a mini market.
Megala Chorafia village is in a very good spot to make excursions to the nearby villages of the Apokoronas region. Stylos you can sip a drink shady coffee automatically and Samonas to visit the church of St, Nicholas, with amazing frescoes. Admire uniquely wildflowers in Crete or walk in small canyons of the Apokoronas region. Megala Chorafia is next to the highway making it easy to access other areas of the island.
Regarding Aptera, it was one of the most important city-states of Crete. The first mention of the name of the city was found in Linear B plates (14th-13th century BC). The city flourished through the centuries until the 7th century AD where it was destroyed by an earthquake. The ideal position was crucial for the development of an important commercial and political center. Through ports Kissamos and Minoa, on both ends of the Gulf of Souda, the Aptera was able to control the naval activity. The city reached its peak of prosperity in the early Hellenistic period (end 4th- 3rd century BC).
Our Village "Megala Chorafia / Aptera" is right next to Crete's main road where you can use a bus heading to Chania or East (Rethimnon / Heraclion). There is no need to worry about their time-schedule since they pass very frequently.
Generally we recommend to rent a vehicle to get the most out of your vacations, since Crete is a big island with many hotspots quire far from each-other.
