Wimsbach Castle is in a scenically and culturally exceptional location. Guests enjoy nearly six acres (over 2 hectares) of private park as well as the area's outstanding cultural treasures and proximity to Austria's lake district. The village is embedded in a nature reserve, offering guests endless local walking and biking opportunities. The baroque churches and monasteries in the area are exceptional, and lakes, mountains and beautiful villages like Bad Ischl and Hallstatt are in easy reach.
I stayed here for a few days with my grandparents and uncle. We all had an excellent experience during our stay here. The host Adrian was very friendly and he provided a lot of useful information about the local attractions and getting around. The property itself is beautiful, and in a peaceful location. we travelled by car so it was easy to get around and visit the various near by lakes. Overall it was lovely place to stay. I would recommend this place to anyone thinking of staying in the area
The castle is beautiful, very clean, well maintained and well equipped. It was a super unique experience. There are plenty opportunities in the castle's garden and around. Adrian is a wonderful host, He took care of everything and made sure we had everything and that we are ok. The conversations with him were very pleasant and interesting. Thanks to Adrian we discovered the history and the stories of the castle what made our stay there more meaningful. An amazing place! Highly highly recommended!!!
This place is a real gem! We chose Wimsbach for a family reunion and felt like we stayed in an actual castle - very spacious, with beautiful surroundings and a unique, romantic vibe to it. The place is freshly renovated, the bathrooms and kitchen looked brand new. Adrian is a wonderful host - easy to communicate, we've learnt a lot of interesting stories about the area from him. We will definitely come back!
It's difficult to know where to start. The region contains some of the most spectacular baroque monasteries and churches in Central Europe (Lambach, Kremsmünster, Schlierbach, St. Florian, Traunkirchen, St. Wolfgang); the Austrian national horse centre (Stadl Paura), which is just 2 miles away; the beautiful historical towns and villages of Salzkammergut (Hallstatt, Bad Ischl, Gmunden, Aussee); the Natura 2000 nature reserve spanning Wimsbach itself; a number of spas (including Bad Wimsbach-Neydharting and Bad Schallerbach); the Alps within walking distance (Wimsbach is in the Alpine foothills, and on a clear day, you can see the Dachstein Glacier from Wimsbach); endless cake and coffee shops (this is Austria, after all); and countless fabulously clear rivers and lakes (Almsee, Traunsee, Attersee, Wolfgansee, Mondsee). Added to that, the city of Salzburg (the home of the Salzburg Festival and the Sound of Music) is a quick car or train ride away.
Wimsbach has its own station. The local train (which can best be described as cute) connects to mainline services to the north and to regional routes into the Alps to the south. Gmunden, Bad Ischl, Hallstatt and Aussee are all easily reached by train, as are the Salzkammergut lakes and Salzburg and Vienna. Wimsbach is 4 miles from the nearest motorway (A1). Virtually all the local attractions can be reached by e-bike, and countless cycling routes keep one away from much of the heavy traffic. The area around Wimsbach is hilly, but not extremely so, which means that a normal bicycle gets one to many sights, and bicycles can of course be taken on the trains. There are all sorts of cheap train ticket offers for tourists. The roads are generally good, but a couple of key destinations like Hallstatt have very limited parking, so a train or train/car solution can often be the better option.
