Set high above a canopy of native bush with a tranquil view of yachts anchored in the bay below is your own private, downstairs studio, bathed in sunshine, with the quaint historic village of Russell a 10 minute drive away. Surrounded by nature you can hear Kiwi calling in the night, wake to the sound of Tui, joined by Fantails, Wood Pigeons, Tom Tits, and Weka as they go about their day. Down a 150-meter native bush track is beautiful secluded Pomare Bay, sheltered by giant Pohutakawa. Uninterrupted views and ample light provide the perfect retreat for you to chill out, pause and reflect, while soaking up the comfortable contemporary surrounds that include: a spacious living area, kitchenette, TV with Netflix, Wi-Fi, separate bedroom with Queen bed, and roomy bathroom. Or soak up the rays on the expansive deck. Kept to the highest standard, every effort has been made to ensure your stay is perfect, with all linen provided, quality bedding, high-pressure shower plus toiletries (due to water restrictions baths are not possible), tea & coffee making facilities, toaster, microwave, induction cooktop, all crockery/cutlery/utensils, and a Webber BBQ to cater for light meals

Completely magical
This was, hands down, our favourite stay in the whole of our trip around North Island. What an utterly stunning place! The apartment itself was spotlessly clean, spacious and super comfortable, and very lovingly kept, and the views and surroundings (and gorgeous trees and birdsong) were just something else. We couldn’t stop looking at them! We wished we could have stayed longer than three nights, and if we ever got the chance to return to NZ, we’d jump at the chance to stay here again. Thank you, Carolina and Jean-Pierre (super lovely hosts!) for such a wonderful stay!

Fantastic stay at this place. Absolutely beautiful and the view of the bay is incredible. lovely spacious apartment, great amenities, clean, and had everything we needed. One of the best Air B and B experiences ever. Carolina was the perfect host and I can't wait to go back. 5 stars in every category. Highly recommended.
The view is breathtaking. The flat is very easy to get to. Russell is a stunning place, and this was a great place to stay to explore the area. Clean, spacious, and the host was very responsive and helpful.

Located on the Te Wahapu Peninsula, surrounded by native bush and waterways, the local community is very proud of its beautiful environment, therefore all take a great deal of care to protect it and the wild life, while enjoying all Russell and the surrounding area has to offer. Such as the local wineries Omata Estate and Paroa Estate (seasonal), the iconic and historic Duke of Marlborough, Pompallier Cafe in the old French Mission, to name but a few.
For those keen to enjoy the outdoors there are several walkways: from Okaito to Russell, Flagstaff Hill to Tapeka and a little further away the Opua to Paihia walkway. For a day out on the water around the Bay of Islands a short ferry trip from Russell across to the vibrant township of Paihia local operators provide numerous excursions, most of which do pickups from Russell wharf.
Russell is within an hour's drive by private car on State Highway 1 from Whangarei and a 3.5-hour drive from Auckland.
Vehicular ferries run every 15 - 20 minutes from Opua to Okiato, early morning until late evening, 7 days per week. Passenger only ferries run from Russell to Paihia throughout the day until late evening.

Jean-Pierre and I are the proud new owners of Pomare's Secret in Russell. We are easy going, friendly and quiet. We both work remotely in IT for a health insurance company and a bank. When we are not looking after our beautiful garden, we are out enjoying outdoor activities or at the beach. We respect our guests privacy and your preferred level of engagement.
