This is one of a small number of large villas in a private 'estate'. You are behind a locked gate (easily opened with the electronic fob provided on arrival but remember to press it again to close the gate as it doesn't shut automatically) and so it is completely private and feels very safe. There is a communal garden and bicycles but we didn't get chance to use them as we only had a short stay. The villa has its own private swimming pool, which is a good size for the whole family. The outdoor area is lovely, with plenty of sun loungers, table and chair sets and nicely-maintained gardens. The table under the pergola is very handy for shady outdoor seating. Inside, the villa is simply furnished with period pieces and whilst some have said that it is not super-modern, we personally loved the authentic Cretan vibe. We didn't use the small indoor pool, as it was not heated, but with the cost of electricity then this would be expensive for the owners if it was heated all the time. Perhaps solar heating might be an option for the future with the option to pay for the additional electricity you use if you want to have this heated? There is air con in each bedroom, which was very welcome - even in early June. A quick blast before bedtime had the rooms at the perfect temperature for comfortable sleeping. Each double bedroom also has a balcony with great views over to the sea. The host popped in to say hello and check everything was all ok - he was very friendly and helpful. We loved our stay here and found it to be extremely good value for money. It was chilled and peaceful and had everything that we needed. We didn't visit the local beach but had wonderful days out to Balos beach, Elafonissi beach and Marathi beach. Our top tip is to hire a car to see the full range of beaches in this corner of Crete - we found Arkadi car rental to be a great local option with friendly 'family-run' service. Don't miss Chania old town - if you visit on a Sunday then parking on the surrounding streets is free and everything is open in the touristy part of the town.

Villa is located in a quiet, private area - traditional style, comfortable and spacious. Within walking distance of local shops and tavernas and short taxi drive from livelier, more touristy areas. Michalis, the host is extremely helpful and easily contactable.

Very expensive for what it is, all furniture and amenities are very old. It used to be an excellent house 25 years ago, but it's clear that nothing was renovated since, not even the TV (1993 model!)...They say actually they have 2 showers when it's only 1. Great location, half an hour from Chania and close to the beach, with amazing olive trees around! But don't be fooled like we were, it needs 10 minutes’ walk to the beach, and a rocky one without much interest... We stayed 24 hours without wifi, and one AC in the room wasn't functioning. Host wasn't reactive, said he will come only the next day at 10am, like he does everyday, as he lives in Chania. Plus keep in mind that Richard is an agent in UK, and sometimes you cannot reach the host who is in Crete, so good luck communicating with UK when you have a problem in Crete...
