TWO ADULTS ONLY - NO CHILDREN OR PETS PLEASE. Get back to nature and unwind in this tranquil, sweet little bush cabin on the banks of the Blackwood River. Situated between Nannup & Balingup, Kookaburra Cottage is part of unique Fern Gulley Retreat. Breathe the country air, watch the wildlife, enjoy sundowners on the veranda overlooking trees & river, read a book, stroll around the property, visit local attractions or nearby towns, go walking, cycling, or just chill out and relax. The cottage is part of 'Fern Gulley Retreat' in a peaceful & picturesque rural area in Southwest WA. You'll be in the country but just 20 minutes' drive from the closest town of Nannup - a popular tourist destination for nature lovers, cyclists, weekend motorcycle enthusiasts & walkers which has several cafes, a pub, brewery/restaurant, small supermarket & a few shops (opening hours are limited). When planning your holiday be sure to visit the Experience Nannup website. Staying in the cabin is a gentle, back-to-nature experience with no washing machine, no clothes dryer, no noise, no dishwasher & no city hassles! PLEASE NOTE THAT MOBILE PHONE RECEPTION & 'HOTSPOT' WIFI ARE ONLY AVAILABLE IF YOU HAVE TELSTRA! However, you DO have most creature comforts - electricity, gas hot water, big kingsize bed with doonahs & electric blankets, reverse cycle air conditioner/heater plus electric 'log' fireplace heater, dining table, microwave, mini-electric oven, air-fryer, gas stovetop (4 burners), crockery, cutlery, glassware, cooking utensils, comfy couch/sofa bed in living room, wrap-around scenic veranda with outdoor settings and wonderful views of the tree-lined valley leading down to the Blackwood River. For your entertainment, there is a TV/DVD player, a selection of books, movies, cards & board games; resident alpacas & geese; visiting kangaroos & emus; and beautiful tiny blue wrens and cheeky parrots who come for treats at the bird feeder. The cabin could be called "McCubbin Cottage" as the walls are decorated with several of this wonderful turn-of-the-century artist's best-known paintings of the Aussie bush. Spend your day discovering the local sights, then enjoy starry nights inside & out! Just turn your bedroom lights on half-an-hour before you retire, then admire the twinkling stars overhead!
Easy friendly communication with hosts. Lovely bush cottage in peaceful surroundings. Had everything we needed. Area very dry at present so water low in the river. Enjoyed feeding the parrots & wrens & had lots of visits from the alpacas & geese during our stay. Disappointing the winery opposite was closed during our stay! Thanks Leanne & Kim
Sublime, soul calming location... not a good entry road for "wildlife hours"... perfect recharge location... will be back!
Quiet peaceful and very comfortable. We loved the morning parrot feeds, and so many animals about. Even in the dry conditions the land is beautiful and Blackwood is so lovely. We aimed to do much more locally but were so comfortable we just sat and watched the birds and enjoyed the peace and night skies. Highly recommend walking across the road to Whimwoid Winery. We really enjoyed our 3 day rest and will definitely stay again.
We had a lovely relaxing and calm weekend away from the busy city and enjoyed the birds and wildlife. With the winery across the road we had everything we could desire to kick back and relax. While some of the internal fixtures are showing their age it was all well maintained and cleaned with plenty of thoughtful touches through out.
You're in a quiet, safe, rural area about 14 kms from Nannup and 26 kms from Balingup. There are some lodges, timber cabins and a winery along scenic and winding Route #251 but not much else - just native trees, wildlife and pine forests!
Nannup is situated at the heart of timber country and has a population of about 1400. There's a grocery store, post office, pharmacy, bakery, newsagent and several cafes and pubs (opening hours are limited). The town is famous for the annual Nannup Music Festival and the Flower and Garden Show. With its stunning scenery, the area is a popular destination for nature lovers, walkers, cyclists, motorbike enthusiasts, campers, bird lovers, artists and photographers.
The Bibbulmun Walking Track and the Munda Biddi Cycle Trail pass through the area and Wright's Bridge and Barrabup Pool are lovely for a swim. There are markets in Nannup every Saturday morning (be early) & lots of local attractions to enjoy. Download the "Experience Nannup" app on your smart phone for details & enjoy your stay!
You'll need a vehicle as you're 16 kms from Nannup and 26 kms from Balingup on a hilly, windy road.
The cabin has a private under-cover carport for one vehicle only. Sorry, no caravans are permitted on the premises. Cabin suitable for TWO ADULTS only.
