Different from other BnBs. Something between a hostel and an old inn. OK but not quite what was expected.

Malcom was really friendly and welcoming and his super old house is full of photos, paintings and lovely sculptures and good books. It’s a really quirky and characterful place to stay and I wish I had booked it for my whole trip. I will come back there next time. The shared kitchen was extremely well equipped and had very nice coffee.

We appreciated Malcolm's welcome and tour of the place showing where things were. The place was clean including our double room. The mattress could be updated as we could feel the springs as soon as we laid down. The shower was nice and hot. The common areas are fun and eclectic. Though it was all clean, as with many older buildings, there is a musty smell that takes getting used to. We appreciated the breakfast items/fruit available to start our day though when looking through the cupboards, found some old moldy fruit left behind probably by some other guests. The location is within walking distance to St. Magnus Cathedral and other sites. We had a car that we drove to Orkney from Gills Bay ferry to St. Margaret's Harbor. This was about 20 minutes to Kirkwall.
