We were so excited to stay in this house because of the awesome Neighborhood, Surry Hills. The house had four bedrooms and lots of stairs. The master bedroom, which is in the basement, flooded twice in two days after thunderstorms. Our clothes got soaked and all the water went under the bed frame and all over the bedroom. We were provided two bath towels that were not close enough to clean all that water. The room was literally flooded. I asked the host if they could send someone to clean the mess up and nobody showed up. The room and the whole house smelled musty. I don’t like leaving negative reviews but this house needs a lot of work. Or just list it as a 4 bedroom place and not 5 until the leaking problem is solved. We are not the first guests that have experienced this. We ended up moving to a different home. Once they actually fix this issue, the house has a lot of potential.
Easy to deal with, the location was great, beds were comfortable. The only comment is that there was no soap in the bathroom sinks for washing your hands.
The property smelled musty on first entry, and the stairs felt a little spongy. No worries, we thought, it's an old house. However, the night of our stay it rained heavily, and we woke to leakage all through the stairwell (and there's 4 flights of stairs, so that's a significant chunk of the property!). I don't mean a few drops here and there, but massive puddles over most of the stairs, at their base, and on the handrails. I reported this to the person answering emails (Yani, not Charlotte), and received no response for hours. The water dried up (assisted by me and a couple of towels, to prevent slips and falls), but it put the spongy stairs into a whole new light. The place needs urgent structural attention to ensure it is safe. Also, there was no soap or handwash provided in any of the bathrooms - in this post-Covid era! I reached out to the contact person who was polite but unable to assist with that, or with how to open the attic room windows, which were locked shut.
It really is a wonderful location. And charlotte and manny were easy to deal with. The house is well cooled and heated. Beds v comfortable. But they need a good stocktake of things. These all feel like teething issues but it would be good for them to go through the place as if they were staying there and just make sure it’s well supplied. Some things were in abundance (hair dryers) others not (glasses). Just a bit odd. But the hosts did their best. We loved our time. But it was a bit quirky.
