Hostel El Junquillo, a colonial house, is located at the very center of Matanzas, offer one Main bedroom with private bathroom, a/c, tv, fridge, with capacity for 3 adult guests or 2 adults and 2 kids, with the possibility of sharing a huge living room and a nice outdoors terrace area, but also an art shop and a bar next to the main entrance to the house. Also a unique place for those who are looking to connect with the local community of artists in town while sharing multicultural experiences. A Main bedroom with 2 full size bed, one fridge, tv, a/c, private bathroom with hot water, connected to the common areas on the house as the outdoors terrace, the dining room and the Main living room. The house also holds room for an art studio and an art shop with a coffee shop& bar included, ideal for those travellers who are looking for more than a place to stay, but the place to connect with the local community of artists and sharing multicultural experiences. Massage therapist and also visual artist Aurora will be available for a Reiki session or a relaxing massage. Meditation and artistic ideas interchanging are also highly appreciate. A place that has been defined as "surrealistic" and "magical" for many of those have experienced it

Wir hatte einen wunderbaren Aufenthalt bei Mauricio! Das Zimmer ist sehr schön und toll eingerichtet. Mauricio ist super lieb und ein guter Gastgeber, wir haben uns sofort wohlgefühlt. Wir würden die Uterkunft sofort weiterempfehlen!

Mauricio's place is (like Mauricio himself) an absolute gem! It is certainly quirky, sharing a building with a bar and art gallery, and is very well-located right in the centre of Matanzas, within easy walking distance of everywhere you might want. The furnishings and fittings are of their age, as is the building itself, which is part of the attraction, but I certainly managed to enjoy a good nights sleep there. Finally Mauricio and his team of assistants (special mention to Alejandro) were both friendly and helpful, offering to help with local advice and checking that all was well.

Mauricio como host es increíble, super dispuesto a ayudar y a orientarte en Matanzas para tener una gran experiencia. Su personalidad es brillante y las conversaciones encantadoras y de perspectivas bien situadas. Salimos de la estadía con un nuevo gran amigo. Mauricio is a great host with a lot of stories to tell, him and Ale (who works at the gallery in the front of the house) had great recommendations for what to do and were wonderful company. The room was very pretty, the patio beautiful and I even got to meet the cat :) I had a great stay at Mauricio's place and highly recommend it to everyone who likes art and good people!

The "casco histórico de Matanzas" also known simply as "centro" is one of the most interesting experiences to get while visiting Town. Beach and Nature are also close by to a walkable distances, but art galleries, bar&restaurants, live music and discos are also located mostly in this area. Teatro Sauto shows a variety of artistic options including classic ballet or circus show, and the well known área of "Narváez" shows a direct contact with real Cuban people -mostly young people- every night, with a good Quality standard variety of restaurants and bars.

If You are arriving from the Vía Azul bus station, then the distance is walkable and very easy to get from the station to the house (basically walking straight la Calzada de Tirry while crossing the bridge and once la Plaza de la Vigía where Teatro Sauto is located is over, turn to the left and walk 50 more meters until the sign of the Hostel can be found on a blue colonial door house.
