The house is a hop, skip, and a jump from Chestertown where you'll find the quaintest little town with shops, a few restaurants, a second hand store or two, and some art galleries. Not to mention the feel from a town more than 200 years old, with some nice architecture to boot. Its a few minutes drive or a 20 minute walk across the bridge into Chestertown. There's always lots going on so check the local calendars. There’s a great Saturday market from 8-12pm. You can eat at a restaurant, peruse the local shops and art galleries, or stop by the whiskey bar with a brick oven and great pizza. The Saturday Farmers Market is a showcase of the best eastern shore produce, some seafood and crafts too!

You can drive to Chestertown (5 min. drive) where there is lots of parking or walk in about 20 25 minutes. There's a public marina where you can put your boat, kayak, or canoe in the water. Here the Chester River is pretty mellow so its safe for all kinds of boats. Washington College is just outside of the main town and easily accessed. There are two bikes with helmets and a lock in the shed which you are welcome to use if you let us know when you book.
Our favorite half day or day trip is to Eastern Neck Wildlife Refuge (open year round) near Rock Hall, MD for a visit and then go into town and see Rock Hall. We like the Harbor Shack for eating a d drinking and for the water view. Even the drive is relaxing, down rural roads and tons of corn and soybeans and farms. Rock Hall is on the Chesapeake Bay and is absolutely one the Eastern Shores best kept secrets. And so is Chestertown! We also love to visit the Granary in Georgetown (25 minute drive north about) where the Fish Whistle restaurant is and eat overlooking the Sassafras River and watch the boats come and go.
Another one of our favorite things to do is visit the Crumpton Auction in Crumpton, just 5 miles away. Its so much fun to see what they have! Its huge! The auction is every two weeks on a Wednesday. You can visit M-W, bid online on Wednesday, and need to pick up your finds by the end of the week.
