ABOUT THE HOUSE The house is on 3 levels : Ground floor : cellar/store room with washing machine, large fridge, 2 portable drying racks, wood shed; First floor: Entry, living room which converts into a private bedroom with ensuite bathroom with comfortable double sofa bed (innerspring mattress) & single sleeping loft (living room sleeps total 3), dining room with single sleeping loft (reading room sleeps total 1), bathroom/toilet with bidet , and kitchen with gas stove with sitting nook including single sofa bed (sleeps total 1), small fridge, open fireplace , timber deck with wooden table and chairs, 1 deckchair; Second floor: bedroom ( double bed with innerspring mattress, sleeps 2) with en-suite bathroom/toilet and bidet, balcony with view over the valley and door leading onto back lane (attention - there is a steep staircase from dining area to bedroom) Other information - For heating during winter, there is a wood burning combustion stove (living rm), a beautiful open fireplace (kitchen/dining rm), wall-mounted bar heaters (bedroom and ensuite bathroom) and towel heaters (in both bathrooms) and wall heaters in living room and dining room. The house has double-glazed windows throughout. The house has the following amenities: Sheets and towels included, 2 x TVs, 2 x DVD players, CD/radio portable stereo ,1 Gas cooker (no oven) and 1 Wood-fired Cooking stove and oven, Microwave, 2 x Fridges with freezer, Coffee maker, Toaster, Kettle , 2 Showers, 1 small Bath tub, 2 Bidets, portable Barbecue ,Board games, Books, Outdoor furniture, Deckchair, Deck umbrella, Iron, Ironing board, 2 folding Clothes dryers, Hairdryer, water-filter Vacuum cleaner, Fan, Heating, Wood heating, Portable heater, Working Fireplace ,Smoke detectors.

Abbiamo soggiornato a Villa Daphne con le nostre tre bimbe e siamo stati benissimo: Karin è estremamente ospitale, gentile e disponibile. La casa è accogliente e si trova in una posizione strategica per esplorare un’area che si è rivelata davvero affascinante. Vivamente consigliata a chi apprezzi le esperienze autentiche e il piacere dell’incontro.
Villa Dafne è una soluzione di soggiorno che tiporta a stili di vita piu semplici e genuini. Infatti la casa è arredata ed equipaggiata in modo rustico, senza per questo far mancare i confort necessari. La frazione di Cagnacci in cui è ubicata è tranquilla senza traffico di auto. Per chi vuole esplorare i dintorni del Molise e del vicino Matese è una ottima soluzione. Karin è super accogliente e simpatica e dal primo momento ho capito che tutto sarebbe andato bene e cosi è stato. Tornerei volentieri in questa casa se ne avessi l'opportunità.
Io e mio marito abbiamo passato due settimane in questa casa bella e particolare. Una vacanza all'insegna del relax al contatto con la natura. Siamo stati in agosto, la casa è soleggiata ma comunque fresca e di notte si dorme bene. C'è un terrazzino in legno che permette di mangiare all'aperto davanti ad un panorama bellissimo e rigenerante. La casa è poco fuori dal paese, in una posizione comoda per raggiungere in poco tempo il Matese o l'alto Molise. La proprietaria è attenta, gentile e disponibile. Da consigliare.
Peaceful cottage with magnificent views.
Our first airbnb experience and we had a great time. My boys aged 5 & 3 loved this little cosy higgledy piggledy cottage with amazing views across the valley towards Campitello Matese. Karins hospitality was second to none - arranging an easy meeting point and welcoming us to her artists retreat with a wonderful local spread of things to eat & drink and plenty of fire wood. The double bed and double sofa bed were very comfy and Karin was correct in declaring the shower "the best in Southern Italy". When planning your stay bring some DVDs and cosy up in front of the fire. The road up to Villa Daphne was a little hair raising with our big vehicle so make sure you are confident with your driving or use a smaller vehicle... but it all adds to the adventure!

Villa Daphne is a 150-year-old stone cottage secluded in a tiny hillside hamlet just outside of the small mountain village of Santa Maria del Molise (population:660) in the region of Molise . It's just 2 hours from Rome, 1.5 hrs from Napoli, Pompei and the beautiful Amalfi coast: just to mention a few of the many major tourist attractions within easy reach. It is the most wonderful base-camp for your Italian holiday!

ABOUT THE VILLAGE
My village , Santa Maria del Molise, will give you the chance to experience the Real Italy while still being able to visit the major tourist attractions. The local people here are honest and helpful, some even speak english having returned ‘home’ after immigrating after WW2. The village church has a spring-fed stream in front where the local women still meet to hand-wash their clothes (luckily, you have a new washing machine at Villa Daphne!!) There is also a coffee bar and a wonderful little restaurant in the piazza in front of the church) You can have a picnic on the grass or use the tables next to the little waterfalls and the mill at the entrance to the village.
Luigi’s shop is the closest of 2 shops in the village and is only about 5 minutes walk from Villa Daphne, where you can buy wines, local olive oil, bread, salami, tobacco, etc. He also fills gas bottles. He speaks english and can help you if you get stuck!
The snow-capped Campitello Matese with its ski slopes and mountain tracks, only 20 minutes away across the valley.
There is a limited postal & health service in the village but the nearest town of Bojano (7km) has a large Saturday morning street market, and some big supermarkets like LIDL, a very good hospital, etc.
The nearest city is Isernia(15km) where the interstate trains leave from.
As the village has limited public transport access, you will need your own wheels to get there, and get around. Petrol and GPL service stations are nearby on the main road.
HOW TO GET THERE To get to the village , it's best to give you directions from the closest city of Isernia (17km from Villa Daphne).
Leave Isernia and follow the SS17 (direction Campobasso / Benevento) for 17km, then take the exit for Indiprete / S. Maria del M aria(there's a bar, carwash on the corner), and after less than 1km , turn right at the S. Maria del Maria road sign, go over the railway lines. Stay on the main road. Go past the cemetary and the trout fishing /restaurant complex in the valley . The road veers left and goes past the dockpond and mill-house.

The hamlet where Villa Daphne is located is on the outskirts of the village, and has a very steep lane leading up to it, so be ready to use first gear!

No tourist traps, no crime, no hassles! I use it as an artist's retreat ( the view from the terrace is inspiring!) but you can use it as a stepping stone to the many nearby tourist attractions - returning there to catch your breath !
