Alto Hondo is clean and comfortable, with pleasant, helpful staff. Though not fancy, the food was of better quality than what I experienced at an all inclusive across the bay. It is a very simple place (with enough amenities to be comfortable for anyone) with beautiful surrounds, peaceful and quiet. To an inexperienced traveler it feels very remote. That's the point, right?! The staff can call a taxi for you, but if you want to explore the nearest town of Sabana Del Mar, you'll probably want to have your own transportation. Also, come prepared with plenty of small bills if you wish to tip, as they don't keep much cash to make change on hand and you can't add a tip when you settle up your restaurant bill. Kate and Misael helped arrange transportation and excursions which was so helpful and convenient and a lifesaver for me, traveling out of the U.S. alone for the first time ever. In addition, they were very responsive to questions and communication.
