We had a fabulous stay. We loved the location and the house was just what we wanted. It felt homely and cosy. Thank you for having us, we would love to come again.
Walnut Tree Cottage in Brampton Bryan is an absolute jewel of a holiday stay. For us, as a mixed aged family, it suited all of our needs. We spent a magical Christmas break here with open fires; long, misty walks and meals around the table. Here are some highlights: - As mentioned the cottage is larger than anticipated. Lots of room to accommodate with a huge garden. - Ample parking for a vehicles - Very well stocked kitchen for christmas dinner cooking. Although the oven is small; we were pre-warned and went for a smaller turkey! - Open fire ready to go on arrival - Laundry washing facilities - Games, books and DVD’s for entertainment - The local area is fantastic. Aardvark books was a highlight, with a lovely cafe, also Knighton for shops and a few gorgeous local meals out. - Whilst the lack of shower curtain and holder for the shower hose was a slight challenge, it became an enjoyable part and celebratory qwerk of our stay. - Excellent accessibility for anyone with mobility issues as there is a ground floor bedroom and toilet. The toilet is small so may not fit a wheelchair and access to the bathroom is upstairs. - Although it was cold and raining outside the cottage remained snuggly warm our entire stay. - We enjoyed the traditional decor of the cottage. It’s beautiful gardens, thatched roof, beamed ceilings, big open communal spaces made for a wonderfully magical stay at christmas. If you want modern, this is not the stay for you. - Christmas decorations were provided and made for a little festive extra for our stay. We would maybe suggest upgrading to LED fairy lights as they are far safer, energy efficient and limit the fire hazard. - Clive the neighbourhood key holder was wonderful. Very polite, helpful with a ‘leaving us to it’ attitude but letting us know where to find him if we needed him. - Excellent facilities for children and babies with a high chair and travel cot provided. Some suggested improvements, these are personal thoughts and we want to add that you really can have the best time without these, we certainly did!: - Wifi. Its un unavoidable necessity in the 21st century. Whilst we love to ‘get away from it all’ the cottage would benefit from it, especially as data signal is so poor due to its rural location. - The unexpected gardener visit. Whilst we didn’t have an issue with him being there; (the gardens are beautifully maintained) it may have been nice to have been introduced or notified as it was christmas eve and felt slightly odd to have a stranger walking around the outside of the cottage all day. It felt like a slight encroachment of privacy. - The smell. It is an old thatched building with aged decor. With that comes a certain aged scent, which we didnt find a problem at all, and added to its authenticity, However what was rather pungent were the car style air fresheners hung about the place. We’d suggest some neutral plug ins or just leave the authentic musk! - Some Modernised updates ‘may’ be suggested. As mentioned Wifi would be hugely beneficial. Typed and printed information in hand books, general info and signage may make for more legible reading. - We couldnt comment on the garden facilities like furniture or garage space as these were locked and out of use. - Some new towels wouldnt go a miss. - Booking through 2 third party providers with cottages.com and air B&B was the worst part of our experience. The contact was extremely slow. We were only able to speak with the owner 3 days before departing to find out check in time and information, and when you are part of a mixed family group travelling from different parts of wales and england during a pandemic at christmas, a bit more ease of contact and information at least a week before would have settled all our minds. However the owner was superb, extremely helpful and welcoming, we can only put the slow pace down to 3rd party providers and middle men. We really did have the most wonderful stay and wont hesitate to book again, maybe even for christmas. If you are considering booking, don’t hesitate. Its magical. Having booked Christmas escapes for the past four years we can truly say Walnut Tree Cottage is one of the best!
