Just a short walk from the house, you find all the necessary amenities like a grocery store, a post office, a bank, cafes and restaurants, a petrol station/charging station, a gallery, a bakery and tourist information. There are two beautiful beaches in the area; one is one kilometre from the house and the other three km.
Surrounding the village are steep mountains and a beautiful fjord, known characteristics of Hardanger. The area has plenty of activities to offer.
Eidfjord is a welcoming village with a population of around 1000 people, often more in the tourist season. Whether you wish to go for a relaxing stroll in the area or challenge yourself with a hike up the mountains, Eidfjord has both.
Just a 20-minute drive from the house, you can find Vøringsfossen, the most famous waterfall in Norway and one of the most visited tourist attractions in the country. Drive further in the same direction and reach " Hardangervidda",; Europe's most prominent mountain plateau and the largest national park in Norway.
Drive 10 minutes in the direction "Simadal", and you will find "Kjeåsen". "Kjeåsen" is one of the most isolated farms in western Norway, located at 600 MSL. If you like to visit the farm, you can get there by car or foot (although the hike is challenging). It has a fantastic view over the valley and the fjord.
Outside of Eidfjord, you can find other hiking trails and natural scenery, such as;
- Trolltunga (location Skjeggedal, 70 km from Eidfjord),
- Dronningstien ( Lofthus, 40 km) '
- Oksen (Tjoflot, 36 km),
- And FONNA glacier ski resort ( summer skiing centre, Jondal, 91 km)
There is also;
- Mikkelparken (waterpark/activity park for children, Kinsarvik, 28 km)
- Hardanger Folkemuseum (folkmuseum, Utne, 37 km)
- and Agatunet ( folkmuseum, Aga, 53 km)
