Kettlewell is a lovely village. The cottage is well equipped, deceptively spacious and clean. However, on arrival the central heating did not work. The cottage was cold and without hot water. We contacted the host straight away. He said this had happened a few weeks ago. He would sort it and would contact us the next day. This did not happen, until we contacted him the day after that. The problem was not able to be resolved during our stay. Instead we used the electric heaters that were available and boiled kettles for hot water.

Kettlewell is a great location for exploring the Dales. There are walks from the door and short drives to many others. The small village has three good pubs, a village store, a tasting deli (for local produce like cheese) and a couple of other places to get food/ice cream so well stocked even if you don’t want to move out. Two of the pubs did good food - well made substantial meals. The cottage is next door to one of the pubs. It has everything you might want - two comfortable bedrooms, well equipped kitchen and living room with two sofas and TV. Heating was adjustable and kept the cottage warm. Nearest large grocery shop and petrol we could find was at Threshfield just outside Grassington. The main suggestion for improvement would be in the directions to the cottage: It is in the terrace of cottages immediately next door to the King’s Head pub (we experienced no noise from the pub). Parking is easy immediately in front of the cottage.
