We spent a very comfortable week in the Byre. Despite the colder weather the house was very cosy and found it to be the perfect base for exploring the area. Our host, Alan, greeted us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed. We particularly appreciated his tips for exploring the area. Can recommend the Durness golf course (a wee gem with incredible views and a lovely welcome), the many white sandy beaches nearby, Smoo cave, the walk up to the Wheelhouse above Loch Eriboll and the warm welcome we received in the Choraidh Croft Tearoom when we returned from our walk in the hills. We hope to return!
Lovely cottage. Extremely peaceful. Very much a get away from it all if you want it to be. Locally a pair of good walking boots are an advantage. Smoo caves just up the road was extremely interesting. Locals very friendly. Host's of the cottage were lovely and were on hand if you need anything. Loved our stay and was sorry to leave. Highly recommend. Be aware it is north Scotland and the midges were out which caused annoyance and a fair few bites. Take nets and or lotions as a precaution. Would definitely stay again.
Rispond is a beautiful spot. The owners have three cottages which are very well specced and presented in immaculate condition. Make sure you do a bit of forward planning about any provisions you will need. The Spar shop in Durness is excellent, but obviously doesn't have the range or opening hours of a supermarket.
