Our stay at Ricardo’s was a mixed experience. The location is great as you are very close in waking distance to the seafront and all of the restaurants and shops surrounding. The flat was spacious and had everything that we needed for a short stay. A little bit dark as not many windows that let in much light but that wasn’t a problem. It’s definitely basic and the bathroom really could do with updating but it was cheap. There was a lot of old dust and dirt behind the windows in the bedroom which wasn’t great. The mattresses unfortunately were awful and clearly very old. They had collapsed completely so gave no support and gave way with a big dip. They really need replacing which I’m not sure is a priority to Ricardo. I don’t mind cheap and cheerful but the mattress needs to be functioning.

The gem of staying here is the people. I made friends instantly with other guests and feel very safe. I enjoy salsa dancing and the owner of the other apartment, which shares the courtyard, goes with us to salsa classes happening every Tuesday and Thursday just around the corner, it is a lot of fun. The location is excellent. You can easily walk to the Malecon, Playa Madera, Municipal market, catch the collectivo, and enjoy the vibrant centro area. The apartments are just a couple blocks past the noisy part of centro so you dont hear the music, there is some traffic noise from the street but it quiets down during the night (I use ear plugs) ... it is a budget place in Mexican style (the bathroom could use some renovation) but the water pressure is good and the apartment is spacious and having a kitchen is great (there is also a communal kitchen for people to use with a full fridge) ... what it lacks in luxury it makes up for with good people and a safe environment.
