I hope that you guys have a great time here in Hanoi! TOP THINGS TO DO IN HANOI * Old Quarter The Old Quarter of Hanoi has something for most travelers. A great place to wander around and absorb the colors, sounds and smells of the area while either shopping or enjoying some of the outstanding cuisines found in the streets. The traffic in Hanoi and specifically the old quarter is hectic and one needs to be careful while crossing the streets. A local who saw us struggling to cross a road advised that the best way is to just walk but keep a steady pace and the traffic will go round you. It seemed to work ! The area around Hoam Kiem lake has some good restaurants and great views if you visit the City View Cafe Building. As in any city there are always the scams and one to watch out for here is the recycled draft beer at the Bia Hoi Cafes. Some establishments will pour all left overs through a sieve to take out any "extras" and then resell the beer as cheap draft. Rather stick to bottled beer. Know the exchange rate when converting and count your money in front of the teller before leaving. Rather use a bank and not the side street vendors. Wonderful mixture of 2000 years of architecture and history with many different nations having occupied this City over time. The mission of the Museum is scientific research, collection, documentation, conservation, exhibition and preserving the cultural and historic patrimony of the nation's different ethnic groups. The museum also serves to guide research, conservation, and technology that are specific to the work of an ethnographic museum. *Temple of Literature & National University Go here and learn about Vietnam/Hanoi history. It is a must see place for travelers, not far from the center of Hanoi and easy to find on the map. It can be reached by bus/motorbike/taxi. Not long stay, an hour is enough.
