This is the second time I have stayed in the house in Shibuya. Absolutely love it. Location, location, location. Really have been spoiled with everything being so close. One ask ... the small refrigerator needs an upgrade. I am a single tenant, but even I was having some challenges with the smaller refrigerator. Pretty limited space and the doors and shelves are hanging on for dear life. Beyond that, I recommend the house for those who really want to experience Tokyo living.
Be ware, This place is not as advertised at all! The only good thing about this place is the location. It’s good to be located in the heard of Shibuya. Other than that the place looks like a much older version of what you see in the pictures and it was poorly maintained over the years. Upon check in it was clear that it wasn’t cleaned before arrival and it was disgusting. BO smell, someones toe nails on the sofa (!!!), hairs all over the bed sheets, the futon under the sheets is dirty yellow, unfleshed toilet, tiny fridge with shelves taped with duck tape, and a lot more. Also found cockroach droppings all over the place. After contacting the host they apologized and said the they will send someone to clean. First night slept fully dressed on top of some blanked i found. It was to dirty to get i to the bed. The cleaners came and did some basic cleaning, but as i tried to explain the owners, this place requires some very serious cleaning. Regarding the cockroaches they said “its summer in japan, cockroaches are everywhere”. I traveled to japan many times, never had this problem! They did send an exterminator, but no guest should be dealing with this on their trip. And the exterminator only put some poison in the appartment, treating the symptom not the cause… The following days i found other issues, like the washing machine was never cleaned and the dirt transferred to the clothes. After cleaning the washing machine myself i send photos to the owner, all they said is “sorry”. The AC has mold, so that is also unusable. When asking them to do a deeper cleaning which this place definitely needs, they said that they already provided the cleaning and will not do anything else. Ended up cleaning their washing machine, all the kitchen shelves, the shower drain, and a lot more. I asked them to refund me and they said that they will refund me the only cleaning fee (which is nothing compared to what i did for them), but they never did. I sent them a request for the money and they declined. I contacted them again and of course they said “sorry we are checking this” and i never heard back since. I waited a bit to give them the opportunity to respond one last time, really tried to be as fair as i can but i got nothing. Now I opened a case in Airbnb which i never did before and I’m writing this review. Avoid this place. Tokyo has many great places and great hosts. This is not one of them.
I ended up staying in the house for over 2-months and it was wonderful. Although the house is located just outside of the central partying area of Shibuya, the area is extremely quiet and I felt like I was in a fully residential area with access to everything. There is a small place to eat literally right next door, with extremely kind and patient hosts and excellent food. Everything is within 1-5 min walk. Shinsen station, coffee shops, curry, tailor, hair cuts, grocery stores, Konami Sports, etc. Shibuya station is about a 10-12 min walk. If you time it right, you can catch the train at the Shinsen station and be at Shibuya station in about 4 min. The train at Shinsen station will drop you right into Tokyo Food Show with high end groceries and prepared meals. Just the best. The roof top was fantastic as the sun moved higher into the sky. Perfect for a sunny spot to enjoy coffee in the morning. A few notes about the house itself. With the staircases, I would not bring little children. The floor plan is quite open as well with no true doors except the bathroom and toilet room. Sound from the outside is not a problem, but you will definitely hear anyone in the house talking. I had my Alexa on the third floor and could ask as question to it from the first floor. The house is set for 8+ people. As long as everyone understands that privacy would be at a minimum in the house, it would be a great place to stay.
A wonderful home and host. Access to the Inokashira Line via Shinsen station is 1-2 minutes walk, with Shibuya Station 10-12 min walk. The Konami Sports center is a three min jog and everything else from grocery stores and places to eat are right next to the home. Even my barber and tailor and within a one min walk. The roof top has been so nice to catch the mid day sun while working from home.
Shibuya (渋谷) is one of the twenty-three city wards of Tokyo, but often refers to just the popular shopping and entertainment area found around Shibuya Station. In this regard, Shibuya is one of Tokyo's most colorful and busy districts, packed with shopping, dining and nightclubs serving swarms of visitors that come to the district everyday.
Shibuya is a center for youth fashion and culture, and its streets are the birthplace to many of Japan's fashion and entertainment trends. Over a dozen major department store branches can be found around the area catering to all types of shoppers. Most of the area's large department and fashion stores belong to either Tokyu or Seibu, two competing corporations.
A prominent landmark of Shibuya is the large intersection in front of the station's Hachiko Exit. The intersection is heavily decorated by neon advertisements and giant video screens and gets flooded by pedestrians each time the crossing light turns green, making it a popular photo and movie filming spot.
Shibuya Station and surroundings are undergoing major redevelopment over the coming years. On the east side of the station, a new large culture, shopping and office complex, the Shibuya Hikarie, opened in spring 2012. A year later, the Tokyu Toyoko Line platforms were moved underground, enabling through-traffic with the Fukutoshin Subway Line.

There’s always a friendly welcome at this laid-back Japanese-style diner on the fringes of Shibuya. Owner-chef Teruyuki Tange combines his love of the ocean (that’s his surfboard on the wall) and cooking to offer an excellent seafood menu, plentiful sake and reasonable prices.

The amount of decent Thai fare has been increasing exponentially in Tokyo in recent years, and this latest Shinsen restaurant is one of the latest. Inspired by the flavours of Thailand northeastern Isan region, you'll find half a grilled bird (kai yang), spicy country-style som tam, and herb-steamed chicken on the menu. Everything is a nod to the fiery yet simple dishes of rural Thailand, and especially to the diet of an Isan man. Apparently, it's common for men in Isan to be the best person in their village to bring out the flavours in the food. To stay true to their roots, the spice has been piled on here too, but if you're not sure you can handle the heat, you can always ask for it to be toned down a bit.
