Set on the shore of one of Jura's prettiest bays, in beautiful gardens, Ruantallain Lodge has magnificent views across the Sound of Jura towards the Kintyre peninsular. The house is a perfect base for family and group holidays to walk, cycle and experience the natural wildness of the island. Situated 30 minutes from the village of Craighouse, the lodge is halfway up the island at it's narrowest point from east to west. Guests can swim, kayak and forage from the beach and nearby shorelines. The traditional wooden lodge offers simple, homely comfort with spectacular views. There is an open plan living and dining room with a piano and open fire, a separate, spacious sitting room with views over the bay and a good selection of books, a fully equipped kitchen, separate utility room and a drying room for boots and wet clothes (and dog towels!). The large adjacent wooden shed is open to all guests and contains a games room with full size snooker table looking out over the bay, a table tennis table and open plan work spaces that could be used for indoor group activities and games. There is also a toilet and wash basin with cold water only and an additional lounge. Dogs are very welcome!

We were looking for a large place for an extended family group with dogs and this fit the bill ideally. The setting is isolated, as you'd expect in Jura, and the views over the bay are wonderful. Highlights of the house include a very large, comfortable sitting room and a drying room, perfect for dogs and wet boots.

A wonderful, spacious and very well equipped place - so much room inside with a super feel and atmosphere to it. Games room is huge with TV, snooker and table tennis - grounds are lovely to walk round and is only a mile to sea loch. Highly recommend it, we had an excellent time and Nikki was very helpful at all times.

Highly recommended for large groups, perfect location in private grounds. Warm and cozy with classy 'old school' interior that was homely and characterful. We were able to sit 15 at large table to eat, with large warming plates for buffet food servings each night. Plenty of bathrooms for privacy for all. Very welcome and much needed drying room. Lovely cozy lounge for fireside ambience. Brilliant 'back barn' for teenagers and children to hang out and play snooker/ping pong or watch TV. Straight out the back door onto the bay. Felt like a much loved family home, that we had the privilege of being able to use for a special celebration.

The village of Craighouse is a half hour drive south along Jura’s single track road, and has the Jura Hotel (and pub) with excellent food and drinks, The Antlers bistro (seasonal), a photography gallery, craft shop, as well as a well-stocked community shop and post office, doctor’s surgery and petrol pump.
Jura has two distilleries - the famous Jura single malt whisky distillery in Craighouse and the beautiful craft Lussa Gin Distillery in Ardlussa. A rum distillery is currently in development.
The whisky island of Islay is a 5 minute ferry ride away with 9 world class whisky distilleries, an RSPB reserve as well as a larger Co-Op supermarket and other shops in Bowmore and an indoor 25m swimming pool and gym.
There is a ferry that runs from Islay to the Isle of Colonsay twice weekly.
How to Get Here
By Car...
Car ferries operate daily from Kennacraig (about 3 hours drive from Glasgow) to Port Askaig on Islay with a connecting ferry from Islay to Jura which is a short, five minute crossing. For details check the Calmac website. Ruantallain lodge is situated 40 minutes from the ferry along a single track road.
By Boat...
A private charter boat can be hired from Craobh Haven Marina (about 3.5 hours drive from Glasgow) direct to the private pier at Ardlussa for up to 12 people. The journey takes about an hour. Contact Nikki for details.
Alternatively you can hire a boat from Crinan, which takes half an hour. Please contact Nikki for details.
By Plane...
Flybe fly daily from Glasgow International Airport to Islay. The flight takes half an hour. Check the Flybe website. From the airport you can hire a car.

Jura has just one single track road. Car is certainly the easiest way to travel to and from the lodge and to get around the island, but of course foot and bike are also possible!
There is a daily bus service from the ferry point at Feolin to Ardlussa at the north the island.
