DOG FRIENDLY - Space together, space apart. The Barns has everything you need for a big gathering with friends and family, but room to breathe! Seven individually furnished rooms mix period furniture with contemporary pieces, and modern facilities make for a comfortable stay. Plenty of outdoor space to cook, eat, relax and play. The Games Room and hot tub makes for a great hang out too. Note: The Barn can be combined with The Farmhouse to hold up to 22 persons. THE GREAT OUTDOORS As well as walks closer to Fletchers the South Devon Coast offers miles of glorious walking with superb views and plenty to see. To the north and only 20 minutes by car is the Dartmoor National Park with 365 square miles of moor, streams, rivers and forest. High granite tors, prehistoric remains and enchanting hamlets and villages make Dartmoor a very special place. FOR CHILDREN Within 30 minutes drive are the Woodlands Adventure park, the Pennywell Farm and adventure park, the River Dart adventure park and numerous smaller attractions for sunny and not so sunny days. GARDENS There are half a dozen National Trust properties and gardens within easy reach of Fletchers and a day trip away are the RHS gardens at Rosemoor, the world famous Eden Project and the Lost gardens of Heligan. During the summer months there are many private gardens open as part of the National Gardens Scheme. Look for the yellow signs. TOWNS Totnes is the nearest town to Fletchers, famous for it's eclectic and alternative lifestyle but with a great range of independent shops and a refreshing lack of chain stores. Its Norman castle, medieval Guildhall and many Elizabethan buildings stretch down to the River Dart. Lively and different Totnes has a twice weekly market and a great selection of bars, cafes and pubs with regular live music. Nearby at Dartington is the famous hall, gardens and arts centre as well as the Cider Press craft and shopping centre. Dartmouth at the mouth of the River Dart is the place for boats large and small with a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants. The castle, museum and the famous Britannia Royal Naval College are all worth a visit. Kingsbridge at the head of its estuary is a good stopping off point on the way to the beaches of the south and west coast of the South Hams while Salcombe is a mecca for sailors. To the north the Dartmoor gateway towns of South Brent, Buckfastleigh (with its famous abbey) and Ashburton are worth a visit before climbing up to the moor itself. The Torbay towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham offer everything from shopping and sailing to the bucket and spade beach delights of Paignton and the fishing port of Brixham. For city life Exeter and Plymouth are both 40 minutes by car. SPORT Sailing and Watersports are to the fore in the South Hams with facilities for boat hire and launching at Totnes, Dittisham, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Torbay. Canoeing, kayaking, diving and sea and coarse fishing are all readily available. There are 6 Golf courses within easy reach with tennis at Totnes and Blackawton, horseriding at Broadhempston and on Dartmoor, rock climbing at Buckfastleigh and on Dartmoor, surfing at Bigbury, horse racing at Newton Abbot and Exeter, football at Exeter, Plymouth and Torquay and Rugby at Exeter. Swimming pools are in Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Torquay. Also swimming in the sea of course! Boat trips varying from 12 seater canoe adventures to large pleasure boats and nature watching or fishing trips start from many centres in the area. Steam trains run from Totnes and Kingswear.
A great venue for a family gathering in an idyllic location - plenty of room for family groups with children and dogs but would also suit adult only groups. Good facilities with very accommodating hosts who are helpful without being intrusive. Clean and tidy. A lovely rural location but near enough to shops and other local attractions to make day trips easy.
We had a family get together and stayed in Fletchers Coombe barn - a spectacular property with beautiful, landscaped gardens, close to Totnes With seven bedrooms, three with en-suites, this delightful barn in Devon is suitable for groups of friends or families wishing to enjoy a get together in a stunning serene setting away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. There is a very well-equipped kitchen, dining area and sitting room with a lot of books and games for all ages in case it rains! The second sitting room and family dining room provides a further relaxation space with stunning views of the excellent garden and the fields nearby. The hot tub, fire pit and the games room were our favourite. This is the perfect place to relax and unwind in absolute serenity, there is a nice play area for young children as well. We thoroughly enjoyed walking through the nearby fields and trails. The location is ideal with a number of beaches and towns nearby. The hosts James and Sarah are very welcoming and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We also got a complimentary night and late checkout courtesy of James and Sarah. Thank you to James and Sarah once again as you are a great host.
