Tarquinia Lido is the marine offspring of Tarquinia, the ancient Etruscan city that is six km away. Tarquinia lies off the beaten path and its authenticity makes it a luxury travel destination for travelers in search of an authentic place.
Easy one-day trip will allow the guest to see these places:
the Tarquinia's City of the Dead, the 3000 year-old Monterozzi Necropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, at a walking distance from Tarquinia's main square; the National Etruscan Museum, containing the largest existing collection of Etruscan art in the world; the historical center with its medieval churches, towers, and monuments: the wonderful Romanesque Church of Saint Mary in the Castle alongside the Tower of Matilde di Canossa; the Cathedral of Saints Margherita and Martino; and the Romanesque-style Municipal Building among the must-see landmark places.
However, there is much to see at the sea as well, starting from the remains of the old Etruscan port of Gravisca, today known as Porto Clementino, a renowned maritime stopover for ancient sailors; the natural Salt Pans Reserve , now a crucial natural site, being the only salt pans in the Lazio region and one of the few remaining along the entire Italian coast;. For sea lovers, stretching north toward Marina Velca and Pian de Spilli, ten km of sandy coastline, which make the place ideal for sport enthusiasts ( surfing, kite surfing, windsurfing, sailing, swimming, running, beach-volley. The sandy beaches and the shallow water create the perfect environment for children, with playgrounds and other amenities provided by the beach facilities.
There is a host of good-quality, affordable restaurants. In particular, fish restaurants are mainly located along the beach of the Lido while in the hinterland you can find many restaurants, wineries and agritourism.
