Mount Cargill · 袖珍小屋 · 1室1床1.0卫 · 可住3人 · Private, rustic, off-grid tiny house.
Private, off-grid-tiny-home comprised of 2 x 20ft shipping containers nestled in native bush. Overlooking Orokonui Eco-sanctuary there are regular avian visitors, who set the atmosphere with background song. A small family of four used to live here; but have now moved into the long awaited new home at the other end of the 15ha property, so you'll have the place completely to yourself. The lower third of the property is grazed and the upper two thirds is regenerating native bush. Stay here if you're looking for something a little different. Don't stay here if you're looking for sophistication; or have a problem with an outdoor toilet! The small space has plenty of functionality, with a full kitchen and everything you'll need for your stay. Breakfast items, tea, coffee and locally sourced milk will be stocked and available for use. Both the "living" container and the "sleeping" container are kept cosy with a diesel heater in each. The living and sleeping containers are separated by a covered outdoor space and this is where you'll access the composting toilet. Being off-grid, the hosts will check that batteries are fully charged before your stay, but for peace of mind there is a small, quiet and easy-to-use generator on site. One thing to note is the fact that one of the beds is a toddler bed and is not full size. This bed is only 700mm x 1800mm, so an average sized adult may have a cosy night hugging the wall to avoid ending up on the floor! A smaller adult may be ok.
Justin’s place is really off-grid and rustic but has everything you need. Bedroom container is very cozy and comfortable you just have to walk over to the kitchen container and toilet. Justin responded very quick and friendly and helped us out immediately! It was a nice stay near Dunedin!
We had a lovely cosy stay, everything you need and the sounds of birds to wake up to with some stunning views around. A great little get away, thanks!
Very cute little container home with birds right on the doorstep. Had everything you need, will point out that the access to the owners house drives directly past the container home so it can seem a bit lacking in privacy at times. Id also mention it felt a little tiny bit werid that people were driving past a little faster than i was comfortable with considering we had dogs running around. Also might of been nice if someone stopped to say hello or maybe a wave.......also wash all the stuff we did find mouse poop in some of the pots and pans. But its not all bad, they supplied lots of milk and the house was loaded with teas and the shower was massive.
The closest neighbours are of the avian variety - bell birds, tui, kaka, piwakawaka and kereru are regularly seen . The keen bird watcher might be rewarded with a sighting of a south island robin or rifleman. Kiwi can occasionally be heard at night-time, with the Eco-sanctuary boundary a stones-throw away. Take a hike up the steep gravel drive, say hello to the cows and have your breath taken away by (the steep 20 minute climb) the rewarding views of Blueskin Bay. Stroll over to the Orokonui Eco-sanctuary and get an idea of what NZ forest might have looked like prior to human (and mammalian) arrival. Takahe and other native birds and reptiles free range within the boundary. Enjoy a 10 minute, bush clad drive down to Port Chalmers to peruse a variety of shops, cafes and the excellent beer selection at The Portsider - or grab a ferry for an adventure to the Otago Peninsula. Take your pick of 6 different local beaches or sample them all, each between 10 and 20 minutes drive from the containers. Reach Dunedin city in 30 minutes by car.
