We LOVED our stay here, it is the perfect place to base yourself if you want to spend some time exploring York. It’s such a short walk to Monkgate, the city walls, York Minster etc. and is a really peaceful street. Charmian and Mike were such lovely hosts and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Gorgeous room, lovely bathroom. Hosts were friendly and very flexible as we were really late. Location is perfect to explore York which is a wonderful place.

Beautiful room, felt very luxurious!! The breakfasts were fab! Well situated to explore York on foot - would definitely recommend and we will certainly be returning!

Don’t miss a chance to stay in Charmian’s exquisite Coal Shed. The decor is elegant and sophisticated. Spotless and comfortable. And the breakfasts are to die for! All you could want for a perfect stay—for a few days or longer. (Also the last street you can park on, just outside Monk’s Gate). So close you can walk to everything of interest in York. Charmian and Mike also were helpful in finding the local (just 3-4 blocks away) huge grocery store and pharmacy, as well as giving us directions to the wonderful sights of York. Don’t miss the York Minister’s free guided tours, the undercroft (2000 yrs of history beneath your feet), the crypt, and evensong. Book your free timed ticket online. But mainly, stay with Charmian. You’ll be so happy that you did.
