South-West Scotland is ideal for holidays and abounds in touring opportunities, historic and cultural sites or sporting activities. The former might include visiting National Trust properties at Broughton House in Kirkcudbright, and Threave Gardens outside Castle Douglas whilst the latter would obviously involve golfing with courses too numerous to mention, including the town's 9-hole course just a mile away. The wonderful Solway Coast with spectacular contrasting sandy beaches and rugged cliffs are a short drive away and there are also excellent outdoor opportunities for horse-riding, bird watching and walking in local forests for wildlife. Biking enthusiasts have many choices with the Forestry Commission's 7Stanes Mountain Bike Routes are all close to hand.
