Fortrose is a bit rundown but there is lots of work being done. There wasn't much choice as to where to stay. Jim's hotel has definitely seen better days but we slept well and had everything we needed. The hotel bar is worth a visit, we loved the music and great selection of craft beers. There's a lovely bakery just up the road, Bakhoos, I think. The restaurant 'IV10' makes Fortrose a place worth visiting on its own. We were only here for one night in miserable cold April weather but there were plenty of people going about and the restaurant fully booked.

The Anderson is a truly authentic mix of American and Scottish cultures, with the extremely convenient option to dine and drink a mere flight of stairs away from your room. Our room was charming and comfortable and the food and drink available from the restaurant and pub downstairs was top-notch. The staff were all amazing and very friendly, and Jim is an excellent host (and chef)! The Anderson itself is wonderfully charismatic, but with the added bonus of great food, booze, and staff it’s very tough to beat.

Wonderful stay. We ate dinner and breakfast and both meals were outstanding. Friendly staff and Jim was accessible, informative and extremely helpful. Would highly recommend this place.
