THE MONTI DISTRICT
The heart of the Monti district is the Piazza della Madonna dei Monti, which has also become a meeting place for young people. The famous neighborhood dates back to the time of the Roman Forum. Back then it was a densely populated area where the poorest citizens lived. Today, however, it is one of the most popular areas, where the best trendy cafes, bars and vintage stores can be found. Rione Monti is located in the center of the city, just a few minutes' walk from the iconic Colosseum. It is a great spot for getting around and discovering the city.
It is a neighborhood where it is nice to get around on foot among the streets that characterize it. To get to the Colosseum, I recommend walking down the beautiful and less frequented Colosseum Street, which is taken from Via Cavour.
Very close to the house is the monumental church San Pietro in Vincoli, which can be reached by climbing the Scalinata dei Borgia (Borgia Staircase), which passes under the eponymous Palazzo dei Principi Borgia (Palace of the Borgia Princes). From there you can also reach the Colosseum by walking through lesser-known streets.
Another fantastic church in the area is the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
You are, of course, near to the grand archaeological area of the Imperial Forum and Piazza del Campidoglio, from this square you can take the Via del Campidoglio to enjoy a beautiful view of the Roman Forum.
