Ikaria is a beautiful private island located on the great Lake of Nicaragua, only 20 minutes away from the colonial and touristy city of Granada. A whole island facing the Mombacho Volcano, exclusively for you and your group of friends and family. Enjoy! *This island has featured on the international TV show "Island Hunters" and has been the location for the Momentom Collective residency, as the "Circus Island". All the rooms have a private bathroom and a balcony facing the volcano. We have a big pool, a huge Yoga Deck, tens of hammocks, full kitchen, living room and many chilling areas where you can enjoy the beautiful views. You can swim in the lake or tour the islands on our private boat. *The 15min roundtrip private boat ride from Puerto Asese in Granada is $25 dollars (Public boat is $45). Exclusive and private access to the entire island. **NO WIFI** **NO A/C** (You won't need it)
Beautiful island on the lake, huge pool, ability to sleep many people but other than that, it's a $25 a night place on an island! If you take a taxi from Granada as a gringo, you can expect to pay about $10 each way! First impressions started off bad, Jose was 45 minutes late to pick us up at the port, our big bags of ice suffered severely in the sun... When we finally made it to the island, hoping to save some ice, I quickly discovered that the refrigerator freezer runs on propane, which is fine, however they didn't turn it on tim that morning and it was still warm! Was told that it will take at least a day or 2 to get cold! I brought about 10 lbs of frozen meats, ice and bags of milk that all needed to be kept cold. Thankfully we brought a couple of coolers to save the perishables. The next day, we discussed going to town for ice and more perishables but found out the boat ride to and from the port costs 300 Cordoba, ($8.80) plus the $10 each way to town so we are at almost $30 just to go to town and back! The boat ride fees are not disclosed on the listing. Some of the other issues, the kitchen floor constantly flooded because the water valves on the sink leak when used. If you like coffee, bring instant coffee as there is no coffee maker but the is a French Press, (partially broken but works) for small cups of coffee. Water pressure is almost nonexistent in the bathrooms and showers. I do not recommend for kids under 2 as there are many parts where a kid can fall into the water as there is water flowing through out the island. There is a railing around the island, but a lot of places a kid could fall into. The island does accommodate a lot of people and the pool is huge, a lot of hammocks to enjoy the shade and breezes. In my opinion, with some improvements, it could be a nice place to stay. Not worth the money and aggravation.
Diego is the man. He was incredibly flexible with checkin and checkout, particularly given the fact that we were a large group of 12 with different plans. Diego went out of our way to plan our trip, to find everything we needed, and just generally check in. He was always quick to respond, and if he couldn't offer a solution immediately, Diego always followed up after researching a solution. Ikaria is beautiful, Nicaragua is wild, but Diego is what made the trip.
The home was lovely! It was exactly what was advertised and the workers and Diego were very helpful, especially when it came to transporting us (party of 17 and 2 babies) back and forth. The sights were amazing especially the sunset and sunrise. I would highly recommend this home. Make sure to bring bug spray to fumigate at night but once the breeze takes over it becomes highly enjoyable and scares off all the bugs.
One must be prepared for an adventure! We stayed at the property as a group of 8 people, including 2 children (7yr + 9yr). The pre-arrival communication was very clear and helpful. We arrived late a night. Diego arranged for a van from Managua airport to the boat dock. The boat was ready to pickup us up and transport us to the island. The 20min boat ride through the dark of night highlighted by lighting on the horizon was amazing to view but not for the faint of heart. Upon waking the next morning we were able to take in the full beauty of the surroundings. Again, Diego was very response via text throughout our stay. He was able to connect us with local transportation for day's we when ventured off the island. If you are prepared for all that comes with staying on an island in Nicaragua (i.e. weather, wildlife, insects) then this is a wonderful property and location.
This private island is one of the best located of all the islands. Located right next to the volcano, you have the best views you can imagine, with no neighbours or any other boats driving by, you can enjoy a very unique experience.
To get to the island we coordinate with you the boat transportation from Puerto Asese. Make sure you contact us before so the boat is at the Port right on time. This boat ride is included in the price.
There is a safe parking right at the port, where they charge 100 cordobas (about U$ 3 dollars) per vehicle per night.
If you need an extra boat ride to the Port and back, the cost is U$ 20 dollars.
