Bie’s place is truly a wonderful place. It is one of those very few Airbnbs that are actually better than what you might expect: the photos don’t make it justice at all. This place is very spacious and has everything you could dream of: great kitchen’s utensils and appliances, board games, books, impressive Sonos device and music library, large stunning swimming pool, charming garden and, of course, very cute and elegant bedrooms and common areas. We (2 couples and 4 young kids) stayed there for eight nights and had a great time. Only downside was the amount of mosquitoes (something we expected), since the house is located just next to the canal, but Bie had provided us with plenty of insect repellent as well as sunblock, hand sanitizer, apart from delicious local marmalades, pates, wine and other delicacies as as welcoming “bundle”... Regarding the village (Puichéric), it is rather small but charming (grocery shopping is limited, better head off to an Intermarché at nearby La Redorte or Trèbes). Apart from going for a hike along the canal, you can rent some bikes (we dindn’t) or, like we did, rent a canoe at the nearby Eaurizon. We also went for a private wine tasting experience at the local Domaine des Homs, which was delightful and just 10 minutes away from Bie’s house. All in all, we had a lovely time at Bie’s and cannot recommend it enough. Thank you, Bie!
Lovely peaceful location, very comfortable accommodation, superb pool and tremendous hosts. We've travelled in France for over 30 years and we can thoroughly recommend Bie's place.
We hope you will enjoy the peacefulness of our house and surroundings, there is only one very nice neighbour ! We love to head out our back gate for a walk along the canal du Midi, left takes you to the lock de l'Aiguille where you can discover the latest creations made by our local artist/lock keeper and it's always fun to have a chat with the various people on the boats in the lock. If you head the other way along the canal, and venture towards the Lock of Puicheric, you can have refreshments in the lock keepers garden. We enjoy the little walk (15 min) into the village for a spot of lunch or dinner, or just a drink at the wine bar, or a coffee at the baker's. Or just sit on one of the terraces around the house with a glass of wine watching the boats on the Canal while enjoying the views and listening to the local wildlife.
In rural France, a car is virtually a necessity if you want to get out and about due to the limited availability of public transport. Puicheric offers a baker, butcher, convenience store, restaurant, wine bar, pizzeria pharmacy, doctor, dentist, hairdressers and newspaper shop, not forgetting 4 wine caves and is ideally located to explore . There are lots of brochures and local maps at the house for you to browse. The region has so much to offer historically from the Romans to the Cathars, the 11th Century La Cite at Carcassonne; culturally, the Music festival of Carcassonne and lots of talented local arts and crafts that undoubtedly there will be something for everybody to enjoy. For those looking for watersports, the local Eaurizon in the village offer kayakking and canoying, you can go windsurfing at the Lac de Jouarres 15 min by car (Homps), the Lac de la Cavayere (plage de Carcassonne) 25 min by car (walking, zip lines, water slides, etc), Golf courses in Carcassonne and Narbonne Les Pins.
