Our lovely old farmhouse is situated in the Vale of Avalon surrounded by apple orchards & gardens. Why not spend your evening watching the sunset from the pool or playing croquet as the BBQ sizzles nearby. The house benefits from wood burners in both the sitting rooms & the dining room. The electric Aga keeps the kitchen/breakfast room warm & welcoming space to gather in whatever the season. Outdoor Swimming pool(available throughout the year) + grass badminton court. Our wonderful farmhouse was built in the 16th from the stones of Glastonbury Abbey. The elm beamed sitting room has an inglenook fireplace and wood burner. The farmhouse kitchen with its electric Aga overlooks the gardens, croquet lawn and BBQ. Off the kitchen is the dining room with a 12 seater table and woodburner. We have six double bedrooms, four upstairs and tow downstairs. There is a bathroom with overhead shower upstairs. One bedroom upstairs has its own sink & WC. One of the bedrooms downstairs has a double bed and single bed with a shower room outside its door. The other double bedroom is in the annex (cottage) which is accessed from the lobby (oak door separates it) and leads into a sitting room with kitchen area followed by the bedroom with its en-suite shower room. The two ground floor bedrooms and their shower rooms are suitable for elderly people and we understand that there is nothing suitable with this accommodation nearby. In the garden we have a 30'x15'x4' outdoor pool. Note, the swimming pool is not fenced. There are sun beds, steamer chairs, table and chairs as well as a hammock in the garden. We also have some bbq's for you to use. The farmhouse is set in a working countryside environment where, depending on the season, you will see & hear tractors driving along the country road, cows and flocks of sheep in the fields opposite. We also have our own sheep and chickens that roam freely here. Our horses live in the paddocks and the stables. Closer by are the friendly chickens who will call by during the day!
We spent a week in August at Maureen’s cottage and had a lovely stay. It’s almost what it says on the tin and if you were paying a reasonable price we would not be leaving this review. We got caught up in super covid hyperinflation where owners think it’s ok to charge through the roof for their properly even tho it’s not worth it. We paid well over £12k which is astounding for a cottage like this. We have upon arrival and realising it was not upto that standard , we emailed Maureen several times about this, showing comparable houses and their respective prices, however she failed to respond. Two of the bedrooms upstairs are glorified singles.. not doubles and there are only two showers and in neither are you are able to stand up!!! One is downstairs with a loose door, the other is in the separate cottage… the bathroom upstairs has a shower in the bath but the ceiling is so sloped we continually banged our heads so we stopped using this. There is also a new shower curtain apparently, but the rail was falling out the wall. We had an infestation of flies and the bathroom was damp with numerous woodlice. The bed linen and towels (very small) are certainly nowhere near luxury (which was the price we paid) and the pool outside was freezing and dirty. In summer the old bedrooms can get very hot and seems to be no way to control this. The tumble dryer is outside in the tin shed where there are little kittens, which the children adored but beware you get hissed at whilst getting your washing out. The house is also extremely close to a very busy and noisy main road where the traffic was way louder than London. Also the house needs if it’s to be at this higher end of pricing to really have proper bath mats and have a thorough clean.
