Our 1950's beach cottage is the perfect place to unwind and leave behind the stress of modern life. Although old, she is lovingly maintained showcasing the authenticity of a bygone era. Pet friendly and located 1 hour south of Durban, Banana beach is across the road and a mere 2 minute walk away. The beach is shark-net protected and a popular surf spot with lifeguards. The cottage has no direct sea view, facing inland toward our verdant garden offering protection from onshore winds. What to expect: Melville is a quiet seaside village on the South Coast adorned with holiday cottages a few permanent residents. Our cottage's interior reflects its vintage charm. The furnishings are carefully chosen to preserve the cottage's authentic character to invite you to relax and unwind. The cottage (loving referred to in our family as the banana) has a floor that slopes slightly due to movement on the sand-dune during the 50's. She is 100% stable now, but we left the crack in the floor as it is part of her history. These nuances provide a glimpse into the cottage's past and create an atmosphere brimming with stories waiting to be shared. The patio faces our tropical garden filled with blossoming vegetation and lots of areas for pets and children to explore. The soothing sound of crashing waves in the distance provide the perfect backdrop for lazy afternoons spent sipping your favorite drink or reading a book on the patio. There is a hospitality/property manager living on the property and he will welcome you on arrival. Sbu services and cleans the cottage daily so you can really take a break from everything. Facilities: There is NO TV and WIFI - Life is too short! So, disconnect from the constant stream of information and entertainment, to fully immerse yourself in the present moment with family and friends. -A central lounge / dinning area. -Two bedrooms: one with a queen sized bed, the second has a double bed. -The third bedroom, a small children's bunk-room with 2 bunk beds. -One main bathroom inside the cottage. Bath, toilet and hand basin. -Well-supplied kitchen: gas hob, electric oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, pootjie pots, bodums (and decent pots). -A covered veranda -An outdoor shower with hot water (everyone's favorite) -A separate outside toilet -Puzzles and books. -Duvets and pillows are supplied -Percale cotton linen -Bath and beach towels -There is a septic tank, remember, non-biodegradable items are lethal, including beach sand. -All 3 bedrooms have ceiling fans - essential against mosquitos in summer -Safe for valuables -Braai / BBQ facility / fire pit -Pet friendly (the property is fenced) Important to note: - Melville is very a quiet and secluded village -Banana beach is a popular surf break -There is a laundromat at Banana Beach. -No undercover parking -Do not feed the monkeys that visit every morning -Keep valuables locked in the safe -Keep gate closed and locked at night
