We very much enjoyed our stay with Keiko-san. The breakfast and dinner each night were delicious and fresh and was a key reason why we wanted to visit. The location is quiet and we were able to see lots of stars and wildlife (even hearing an owl at night). The place is small and rustic and if you go expecting that you will love it. Keiko-san is very friendly and we had some good laughs during our meals together. The room was comfortable and visiting with the local onsen for bath/shower was easy and nice to experience. Would visit again, especially for the food experience. Thank you Keiko-san.

I had a great time staying at Keiko-san’s place! First, the caveats: this is a rural experience. The sleeping and living areas are very comfortable but both are essentially rustic cabins. This means that bugs - some spiders in the corners, moths, etc - are co-inhabitants of the space (at least when I visited in mid September). I’ve lived in New York City apartments which had much worse insect situations, so it was not unpleasant for me, but something to be aware of. There is also not a shower available at the air bnb. There is an abundance of hot springs in the area where you can clean up, but you have to incorporate that into your daily plan (not actually a bad thing!). If you go in expecting these points, Keiko-san’s place is otherwise a fantastic taste of rural Hokkaido. It is convenient for exploring the beautiful Lake Mashu area. Keiko-san is also sweet, super helpful, and a wonderful cook, and I very much enjoyed her company during meals. I hope to go back again!

Staying with Kaiko was truly a special and authentic Ainu experience that I will never forget. Everything was exactly as described and shown in the pictures. For me personally, it was cosy and snug, and I had two wonderful sleeps alone in the woods with a few friendly creepy crawlies to keep me company. Kaiko was an exceptional host and is so warm, friendly and welcoming. Kaiko is a passionate cook, which showed in her cooking skills, which I shared two breakfasts and two dinners and Kaiko even made me a packed lunch to take on my hike! Kaiko's has a good understanding of English, and we were able to enjoy our conversations together around the dinner table at ease. The price includes breakfast and dinner, which Kaiko cooks fresh. This worked really for me as I was able to enjoy local, authentic Ainu cuisine in the comfort of me stay. I highly recommend this Airbnb to anyone looking for an authentic, special and unique experience in East Hokkaido.
