This is a simple studio in an affordable hotel with nice staff. Everything worked as expected. The neighborhood consists mainly of hotels glued to the hillside. To get to the market and its many restaurants, you’ll climb about 150 stairs and then walk on a busy, narrow street for another 5 minutes, hoping to not get hit by the too many cars. The studio is on the top floor, has a bathroom, a kitchen and a balcony facing east toward the sunrise. It has a nice view of the steep, green hills, topped by snow peaks visible in two places (you’d have to be higher up to see the whole range). One of the drawbacks is a restaurant/bar just up the hill that has live music and no walls. On most evenings, from 8 pm ‘til midnight, and sometimes later, the neighborhood is inundated by the loudly amplified music. Always the same musician with the same songs. This reduced my sleep to 5 hours a night, which needed the compensation of an extended nap in the afternoon. Not exactly a healthy sleep pattern.

Our stay at Albela House was an excellent experience! This guesthouse is very close to many restaurants, shops and tourist sites around Mcleodganj. The room was just as described; it was great to have a small kitchen and access to a washing machine. The views from the room and balcony were amazing!

Albela house is a very clean hostel with very nice staff. We arrived after check-in time, and they still welcomed us. The room was clean and had gorgeous views. However, there were a few things written in the listing that made us choose this place and that weren't there in reality – there's no washing machine for guests, there's not a dedicated workspace, and the kitchenette wasn't fully-equipped at all. Also, the room is not very well isolated, so when it's cold outside, it's pretty much the same temperature inside (and you have to pay extra for a heater). Having said that, we had some queries the first morning, and the staff quickly helped us feel more comfortable – they gave us a fridge and a table to work, and made our bed softer. During our stay, they quickly provided anything we needed (toilet paper, filtered water, room cleaning, etc.). About the neighborhood, we had to climb some stairs, but we liked to quickly be downtown! We had a nice enough stay at Albela House.

1) room in booking picture did not match actual room. No refrigerator; kitchen with just one frying pan; 2 plates and two bowls 2) I booked an address per my booking on Temple road (near to where the teachings were happening) instead the location I got was very different (Jogiwara Road) which is very far for two older couples. 3) loud open air music every night from 2 or three different surroundings restaurants playing from 7pm until almost 1am!!! 4) incessant barking throughout the night from 6-10 dogs in the neighborhood Had to climb around 160 steep steps three times a day to and from place to go for food; teachings and just get to the main market place 5) very poor service - no cleaning done once throughout our one week stay; no linen changed once; charged us for one laundry load (not cleaned properly) Just one small drum of filtered water - never replenished the whole week 6) overall - inconvenient; physically challenging; pathetic response from building person in charge - I
