The cottage is situated on a 36 acre farm of which 22 acres support a herd of beef cattle. The remaining 14 acres are managed by ourselves. There are 3 ponds, small burns, wetlands, hedging & some 3,000 native Scots trees. A huge number of different species of birds can be seen both summer & winter. There are numerous pathways for walking, benches to rax on and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful area. 2 dogs are welcome and in keeping with the right to enjoy the countryside, must be kept out of fields when farm animals are present. Boghead Cottage is situated in the ideal location for the 'Whisky', 'Castle' & Victorian Heritage Trails and the famous Highland Games at Aboyne, Ballater, Lonach & Braemar, attended by various members of the Royal Family. Nearby castle include Cragievar 6 mls & Crathes 13 mls, Balmoral, Castle Fraser, Drum & Braemar but to name a few. The Royal Lochnagar Distillery at Crathie near Balmoral Castle is a must visit, and you can enjoy an excellent dram at the end of the tour. The Deeside area has numerous golf courses (too many to mention) along with river fishing for salmon and trout fisheries. Skiing at the Glenshee & Lecht Ski centres during the winter months. Pony trekking at Aboyne & Balmoral. Water sports at Aboyne loch and gliding at Aboyne airstrip. For Mountain Bikers, Tarland Trails are nearby and there are loads of mountain tracks in the Cairngorms. Maps are available and bike storage in the garden shed. Lumphanan itself is famous for its association with 'Macbeth' and various attractions can be found nearby, including the line of the now disused Deeside Railway. The Grampian Transport Museum is sited at Alford (10mls) & The Deeside Activity park (karting/quads) 4mls. It is well worth paying a visit to the 'Granite City' Aberdeen, which is the Oil Capital of Europe. Plentiful shoping, museums, theatre & superb international restaurants available.
