If you like an active holiday you will find several possibilities in our area.
Walking, cycling or mountain biking, for different outdoor needs there are all kinds of possibilities.
There are marked hiking trails throughout the region. In the Gite there is a folder with walks and the Tourist Office in the village can advise you on walks tailored to your personal preferences. For cyclists there are many cycling routes and in high season the office de tourisme can also rent bikes. Also for mountain bike lovers there are several possibilities with marked routes. If you bring your own bikes, they can be safely stored in our garage. Electric bikes are a must to enjoy the hilly landscape.
The popular geocaching has also penetrated the French countryside and for adults and children there are several geocache hikes in our area. There are great walks designed for the whole family and these "Terra Aventura" tracks are located throughout our province of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The Tourist Office provides the information for these walks with regard to GPS and smartphone use.
From the nearby village of Oradour sur Vayres a former railway track leads to the village of Chalus. This so called "Voies vertes" is a part of a network of these paths which are located throughout France. This path is asphalted and very suitable for walking, cycling or rollerblading. Along the path you will find the excellent restaurant "La Gare" in the old station building. A good restaurant with a delicious French-European cuisine and a terrace adjacent to the Voie vert where you can relax after a nice walk or bike ride.
Fishing:
There is plenty of fishing in the Haute-Vienne. Who applies for a fishing license at our local "do it yourself" shop on our site or in numerous rivers and lakes in the area.

Swimming:
The area is very water rich with various possibilities for swimming and to enjoy the water. In the high season the swimming lakes are guarded by bathing personnel which provides extra safety. Often there is also the possibility of renting a canoe or pedal boat on the lakes.
The Tardoire, which also meanders through our grounds, is a lovely river to stay with. It is a shallow, flowing river in which young and old can play. Many of our guests love to cool off at the river in the evening or can't resist building small dams like real Dutchmen. A walk along the river is also very nice to do, but the bottom of loose stones and boulders requires good water shoes.
Points of attention for small/young children:
The current of the river and the power that the water can have asks for supervision of young children without swimming experience or swimming diplomas! We make the parent(s) responsible for supervising their own children while using our river and swimming pool!
Our terrain is large and not completely fenced, with the presence of ditches, large difference in height, pool and river our terrain is not suitable for small children. Naming an age limit is difficult but we believe that your child should be at least six years old, able to stand on their own two feet and be able to swim so that the safety of your child is guaranteed during your stay. Crawling children are not safe on our site although an infant / baby with the use of playpen is safe on our site.

This part of the Haute- Vienne is a green and sloping area with lots of water in the form of lakes and rivers. Approximately 60 percent of the landscape consists of agricultural land, with many cattle, sheep and a few horses, but also fruit orchards and corn and grain fields adorn the rolling hills. For about 40 percent it consists of deciduous forest and
The herds of the famous Limousin cows are in the various meadows that complement the landscape.
The mill "le Moulin de la Barbarie" is located in a national park, the Parc naturel régional Périgord-Limousin. This park was created in 1998 and since then it has invested in improving nature, culture, activities and tourism. It is a beautiful park that stretches over the Haute-Vienne and the Dordogne. Since 2016, the Park is part of the new Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
In the past, the mill was used for all kinds of crafts such as the processing of wool and chestnuts and in the last period it generated electricity for a nearby clothing factory. The turbine of the mill was powered by water and is no longer working, even the factory for which the turbine generated electricity has long since ceased to exist. The industrial past gives the mill building a tough and robust appearance.
The Gite is centrally located between the two villages Oradour sur Vayres and Cussac. Everything like supermarket, bakery, butcher, cigar maker, pharmacy and other smaller shops can be reached within 10 minutes.
Both villages have several restaurants with local French cuisine or just for the tasty pizza. Also in more distant villages around us you can find supermarkets, local shops or restaurants. On different days and evenings in high season local markets and festive evenings are organized. Flea markets, local parties and other celebrations are held throughout the summer and the Tourist Office has up-to-date information on all these activities.
Even though the mill is centrally located between two villages, its location is very private, surrounded by nature and full of tranquility. An ideal location where we enjoy the diversity that the French countryside has to offer.
In addition to the local restaurants in the surrounding villages, there are plenty of catering establishments such as pubs, local restaurants, commercial restaurants and beach (lake) eateries in the wider area. Are you a true culinary connoisseur and crazy about French cuisine then we have some highly regarded restaurants in our area that are absolutely worth a visit.
In high season there are several farmers' markets and feasts where you can enjoy all kinds of fresh culinary delicacies. Highly recommended are the local artisan barbecues where the local artisan offers his or her meat, vegetables, wines, fruit and much more. On the spot you can have your food prepared on the large barbecues. At long tables between the locals you can enjoy this delicious traditional meal and with music and a good glass of wine it often becomes evenings not to be forgotten.
In both villages, the fresh bakery is open seven days a week.
The Gite has a TV with the world broadcaster bvn and many other foreign channels. The TV has a DVD player.
Through a satellite connection there is a simple internet connection available via Wifi.
Because we are low in a valley, the mobile connection is not always strong, within the Gite it will be difficult but our experience is that as soon as you enter the field, the connection is fine.
