I LOVED Dravuni! The wonderful people in the village made me feel so very welcome, teaching me their customs, inviting me to stop and have a chat and/or few cups of kava - I felt more like a guest than a tourist. The corals around the the island are truly spectacular, ranging from dramatic landscape to the most gorgeous coral gardens. Fish were not that abundant, probably because the villagers eat a lot of fish -as did I, sharing my neighbour Samu’s simple meals. Fish aplenty plus corals on the outer reef, a 20 min boat ride away. Challenges: (i) Getting there. Aside from the weekly $50 ferry, villagers take passengers from Suva in open boats. Avoid travel via Kadavu: very expensive. (ii) Nights. No electricity in the cabin meant no fan. It was too hot to sleep unless windows and door were open. No mosquito screens on either and a net (offered) would have been too hot. Keeping it dark and two mosquito coils kept mosquitoes at bay. BUT I would still come again regardless.
