We had a board retreat at the location. It was so wonderful to have a quiet place to have a meeting where we didn't have to worry about noise or dealing with other people. We were able to start our meeting right after breakfast and we brought food in to have. The kitchen was well stocked with dinnerware and silverware which made having our buffet-style breakfast and lunch so easy. There were clear instructions on how to get onto the internet and cleaning requirements. The house was just absolutely beautiful. The rooms were lovely upstairs and the beds were great. We did go out to eat for dinner at a local restaurant and came back to relax in the living room. It was too cold to go out on the screened porch but if you rent during nice weather, it would be a great area to sit with friends or family.
We needed a large space for a group of people doing some intensive work. It was perfect for what we needed.
This was the second time we have stayed at Olivia's. We had a large family group staying, and celebrating my Mother's 80th birthday. The home was perfect, and the host is very friendly, and accommodating. I would highly recommend this home to any large family. We will definitely be staying again in the future.
Great place! Really a cool house with a lot of history. I’m working in town and liked it so much I booked it again for next week.
Olivia's House was wonderful!!! Really enjoyed the historical values which brought back so many memories from my childhood. Very clean CHARMING home with all the comforts of home! There was even a Christmas tree lit for our family to enjoy! I agree with the description that the home is like a living museum of Carolyn Ruth's parent's life but also was so warm and inviting. The office/library on the second floor is filled with so many interesting books and history!! I wish our trip would have allowed us to stay longer but we were short on time during the Christmas holiday and didn't get to enjoy this beautiful home the way I wished we could have done. We definitely will return again someday and spend more time enjoying this home's unique character and I'm sure anyone staying here would feel the same. I highly recommend this home to anyone who especially appreciates history!
My first name in Carolyn but I go by my middle name of Ruthie. I am the owner of Olivia’s, my childhood home where I grew up in Baldwin City. My father, Ray M Jones Jr. D.O., was the local country town “DOC” for nearly 50 years and the Baker University school and sport physician for 20 years. My mother, Edna “Olivia”, was his nurse, businesswoman, and a displaced southern Mississippi Belle. My parents aspired to be missionaries to Africa early in their marriage but instead healed the sick of Baldwin and supported the medical missions all over the world. Both my mother and father have degrees in Bible studies. My father was an ordained minister from Dallas Theological Seminary and my mother had a teaching degree from Dallas Bible Institute. I graduated from Baldwin High School. I have a BS degree in Pre-med majoring in Chemistry and Biology from Baker University, which is located in Baldwin City. I worked with my father as a physicians assistant and laboratory director. I, also, studied the history of Art and Music of the distinguished House of Habsburg in Austria. I live both in Florida and Baldwin City at various times of the year. I love being with family. One of my reasons for keeping this big 5,000 sq ft home that I call, OLIVIA’S, is to be able to have a home large enough for all my five brothers and now extended families to come together and share the memories of our incredible parents in the home that started all our memories. We have several reunions each year. I wish to open this home to share the passion of it. Olivia's is a tribute to the people who have used their God given gift of HOSPITALITY to care for the hearts and souls of all who step over the threshold. I want to see each person, who experiences this home, blessed beyond their dreams. I am outgoing, cheerful, easy going and generous. I never meet a stranger and often love easily. I would love to meet each and every person who stays in my home, but it isn’t possible. I have handpicked Kim to be my cohost and housekeeper. She represents a kind, faithful, soft spoken and gentle replacement for the days that I am unavailable to host. I have a positive attitude and often tell too many stories. Stories are the fabric of life. I am available at all times for questions! I can jump on a call and get to know my guests should you wish. It will be our honor to host you in the home I call, Olivia’s, after my mother’s middle name which my father dearly loved. Each of the bedrooms is named after one of her many passions. My favorite quote comes from the Bible: “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32 WE WILL LOOK FORWARD TO MAKING YOUR STAY ONE OF THE BEST GIFTS THAT YOU GIVE YOURSELVES.
