The Lookout is a fabulous location with great views overlooking the water. You certainly need a 4wd for the driveway. Great location close to the excellent Pa Cafe and Irish Pub. Was a little disappointed about the cleanliness of the property. Beds were super comfortable.

The Lookout is a beautiful home in a stunning location. We could have daily swims in the lagoon like harbour from the boat ramp at the bottom of the drive. The driveway is a gorgeous wee bush walk - tricky for non 4wd vehicles but not as long as it seems for a daily walk or two up and down. The views are mesmerizing, both the sea scape and forest behind. Ruru echoing across the valley at night and gorgeous stars on clear evenings. A great kitchen for cooking, with lots of yummy things in the garden and very comfortable living arrangements. Close to shops and an easy drive to the Sealink Ferry and Airport. Would go back in a heart beat.

It really is a STEEP drive and it’s not the clearest signage but once you arrive it’s definitely worth it. The views are just amazing in every direction, including while lying in bed which is wonderful and peaceful. Don’t expect all mod cons.. this is Barrier living .. water needs to be rationed, the shower pressure is weak, and the place has old style furnishings but personally we couldn’t have been happier as the view and location were so good. The beach is perfect for a swim and we picked fresh herbs from the garden. So all in all very enjoyable.

The views and sunsets from this place are absolutely stunning. A true taste of life on Great Barrier, I would highly recommend. Definitely glad we rented a 4WD to get around the island and up to the house as suggested too.

The location and views are absolutely stunning. Being nestled in the bush means that birdlife is all around you, especially at dusk, but kākā and ruru are active at night. The house is quirky and has a great library of books and board games. The solar panels supplied enough electricity and we had ample hot water - there's a great shower. The ADSL internet access is not great, but 4G reception was good. There are no curtains, which makes for fabulous views, but you may want to bring a mask for sleeping and privacy is reduced - we had a few unexpected visits.
