1 Pumphouse Cottage Longford Ashbourne was built circa 1780 & formed part of The Pumphouse that use to supply all the water to Longford Village up to 1945. Its a gorgeous 2 bed period cottage with outstanding views in the middle of the Derbyshire countryside. On the edge of the village with Ashbourne & Derby within 20 and 25 minutes. It has a good size lounge & a kitchen with a dining area. Two bedrooms with a king size bed and twin beds in the second bedroom. Bathroom with large shower area. There is a beautiful garden to enjoy the tranquility of being in the middle of the Derbyshire countryside. The property has had some upgrades over the last couple of months. The lounge now has a Sony 55 inch television with Blue Ray /DVD player, Sky on Family Package, settees that are now leather and recline and BT Wi-Fi. The kitchen has a new period table and chairs, Smeg Retro Fridge / Freezer, Smeg Induction Hob, Smeg Convection Oven, AEG Washer / Dryer, AEG Dishwasher and Brita Filter Kettle. The bathroom basin has some period taps on the basin now. There are some lovely food pubs with in 3 - 4 miles and a local drinking pub a short walk down the road. Located in a great area, perfect for visiting Alton Towers or bike rides. Walks from the doorstep too. The property was cleaned to a very high standard and we had everything we needed and more. The treats were very much appreciated....thank you! We would definitely return.
We really enjoyed our time at the Pumphouse. David and Carol were great hosts and did everything they could to ensure that we had a great stay. Very clean and they met us at the house to give us a guided tour. They were very quick to answer any questions - nothing was too much trouble. The cottage is in a very rural location, a wonderfully old-fashioned part of the world. All the people we spoke to were friendly. Lots of birds and wildlife generally. Note that phone signal is an issue, I’m on Ee and could only manage to get a very weak signal in a couple of parts of the house. There aren’t any local shops so make sure that you stock up on supplies. Little bit of noise from the back road but didn’t bother us. I would not hesitate to recommend this as a great place for a quiet getaway and viewing of the Derbyshire countryside.
Places to visit include beautiful market town of Ashbourne, Calke Abbey, Kedleston Hall, Alton Towers including Splash Landings, Melbourne Hall, Tissington Hall, Bike riding on the Tissington Trail, Dovedale and Mayfield to name but a few places of interest. You are also close to the border of the Peak District National Park which gives further places of interest such as Bakewell, Matlock Bath, Crich, Wirksworth giving you access to the following attractions Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Heights of Abraham, Crich Tramway Village Museum, Gullivers Kingdom, Carrisington Water, The Peak Wildlife Park and Wirksworth Heritage Centre. There are many more attractions to find as well.
You'll need to be able to drive to the local shops as the property is situated in the middle of the countryside. There is Hackwood Farm Shop and Tea Rooms approximately 10 minutes away for locally farmed produce and they serve breakfasts and lunches. They are located at Radbourne DE6 4LZ (01332 528 300). It's only a short drive to the beautiful historic town of Ashbourne. Derby is a large city that is another short drive in the opposite direction. Bakewell is around 50 minutes away.
