The Cannery is a beautiful home with tons of space. However my family and I did run into a few things that do need some attention given the price. I'll begin with the water pressure, it was difficult for us to shower given the lack of water/pressure. Also in the master bedroom there was dog hair in the bedding and on some of the pillows. I am a dog owner and I completely understand that dog hair is difficult to remove however not impossible. The front screen door has some metal hanging off no one was injured but I do recommend it being repaired. In the basement there was a significant amount of water coming in from under one of the locked doors and into the carpet. The basement itself had a mold or mildew smell. The sectional also smelled like dog urine. That being said we would be interested in renting again in the future if these few things are attended to. P.s Add tie off ropes by the docks to avoid anything floating away again.

The property was so nice, so magical. The enormous trees, the water views, the breezes, it was a great-great place for us.

Lauri was responsive to all our questions and a good host. She sent maintenance guy when needed.

First and foremost, the location is beautiful and the home is spacious and comfortable. I stayed with 8 colleagues for a work retreat and we enjoyed ourselves overall. However, there are a several issues that were very frustrating to deal with, especially considering the price we paid for the home and the cleaning fee. 1. Communication with the host. We requested an early check-in, as we had people arriving from multiple locations, including out-of-state. I sent an email to Lauri, which she responded to asking for our reservations date (which I had provided in my very brief email already) I responded, provided the details again, and didn't receive a response. After additional follow-up, she finally confirmed that we could check-in early. We also asked to be notified if the second space on the property (actually just a part of the house with a separate entrance) was going to be occupied during our stay, so we could plan our use of the shared outdoor spaces ensure Covid safety. Lauri never notified us and we were surprised to see other guests there when we arrived. Considering that all of the outdoor spaces are shared, and we had explicitly asked for notification so we could plan and be safe, we feel this is a really unforgivable oversight on Lauri's part. 2. This also falls under communication with the host: not receiving the waiver to use the watercraft until the second evening of our stay. We followed the instructions to text Lauri before our stay to request the waiver to use the watercraft, and she did not send it to us until the second evening of our stay, after the time we had hoped to use the watercraft. She followed up the next day asking if we had received the waiver and I responded that we had, but because she had sent it so late, we no longer had time to use the watercraft. This was very disappointing, as we had hoped and planned to be on the water on the second day of our stay. She did not respond with any apology for sending the waiver so late. 3. Washing machine broke and flooded. When we arrived and were bringing food items into the kitchen, we noticed a very strong smell of mildew coming from the laundry room, immediately next to the kitchen. We noticed that the laundry machines were very old and figured they were probably smelly from not being cleaned/maintained. One of us needed to do a small load of laundry, and as soon as we started the washer, it started leaking from either behind or beneath the machine and it flooded the laundry room and came out into the kitchen. We suspect that it had leaked before and that was the cause of the intense mildew smell. We located a mop, but no bucket, which made attempts to clean it up challenging. I immediately texted Lauri, alerting her to the leak and asking where we might find a bucket. She responded with *no apology* and *no offer to have someone come look at it or clean it up* she simply replied with "oh no! there are some plastic buckets out front" referring to some dirty children's beach buckets outside. 4. Not enough kitchen items. For a space advertised as accommodating 12 people, there are not enough plates, nor enough chairs to accommodate 12 diners. There weren't even enough chairs to accommodate our group of 9 around the single dining table. Additionally, we could only find 2 kitchen towels, which is not nearly enough when you have multiple people cooking, cleaning up, and trying to use the kitchen. We ended up using a lot of paper towels, which was very wasteful. 5. The kitchen terrible. It is large, but very awkwardly laid out, which makes cooking--especially with more than one person--very frustrating. There is no range hood or other ventilation for the stovetop, so cooking smells linger. in the kitchen for hours and infiltrate the primary suite above the kitchen. There are tons of cabinets and drawers, but nothing is labeled and things don't seem to be located in intuitive places, so you waste a lot of time trying to find dishes and utensils. The water pressure at the kitchen sink is awful. It's little more than a dribble, which makes trying to clean up, get a drink, get water to cook with unnecessarily challenging. 6. The outdoor spaces were unsafe/uncomfortable. The deck area around the spa tub was extremely slippery and several of us slipped and/or fell while getting in our out of the spa tub as a result. The chimney on the outdoor fireplace is right at eye level, so anytime you approach the fireplace to stoke the fire, add logs, etc. the smoke blows right into your face/eyes. 7. Numerous oversights that contributed to an uncomfortable stay. No bath mat in the primary suite bathroom, so the tiled floor was extremely slippery when getting out of the shower. We would've just used a towel, but there weren't enough towels. One hand towel in each bathroom is not enough. We weren't able to turn on the ceiling fan in the primary suite, and considering how badly the cooking odors from the kitchen infiltrated the suite, this made it very stuffy. We found a remote for it, but no amount of fiddling around with all the switches in the room seemed to allow us to turn on the fan. There is no air circulation in that bedroom without the fan, so we had to open the windows in the bedroom, which then made it damp and cold. The sheets for the loft bed in the primary suite were wadded up in a bag tossed behind the mattress and appeared to not have been washed, as they smelled musty and there was a sock was a sock in the bag with the sheets. We weren't able to find any additional sheets anywhere, so someone had to sleep on the comforter with

The secluded bayfront location of this property is spectacular. The main house is charming, comfortable, and well appointed. The rooms are well set up and easy to live in, the beds are comfortable, and the kitchen is a joy to cook in (plus it has every possible utensil you might need). It’s off the beaten path, but still a quick drive to town and the beach. The microclimate is indeed much warmer than the ocean beaches, and the owner is very responsive and available to answer questions. It is a lovely spot in which to spend a vacation. That said, our personal experience also included some unfortunate surprises that could been avoided. The owner has now clarified the relevant details in the property description, which is good to see as it will set better expectations for future guests. Potential guests should understand clearly that there are two units on this property and they are part of the same structure. They have separate entrances but share one interior wall and a common plumbing infrastructure as well as the front/back yard and outdoor kitchen. What surprised us was discovering that when the owners are not utilizing the second unit themselves, it may be rented out to another group. (This was not clear in the description at the time, so we did not realize it until after we’d booked.) Practically speaking this means that your privacy on the grounds of the property (and potentially your Covid safety given the current rise of the new, more-transmissible Delta variant) may be subject to the behavior and politeness level of up to 6 people outside your own group. If this is a concern for you, you will want to check your options with the owner before booking. (Note: The owner did offer us the opportunity to rent the second unit ourselves after we voiced concerns, but as we were already paying a high season rate on par with private luxury beachfront homes in the area, we were not prepared to pay significant additional money for that purpose. The option does exist to rent the entire estate, and if you desire complete privacy I would recommend evaluating that option before booking.) Like many older homes on the Oregon coast, this house has some infrastructure and maintenance issues. We found a number of items around the property in need of repair – most particularly the grill and lights in the outdoor kitchen - which surprised us given the price. Until the owner is able to address these, guests should know that the property's exterior is a bit more rustic than it appears in the photos. Also important for guests to know is that the water pressure can be variable and cell/Internet service can be spotty. These issues are probably unavoidable given the secluded location, age of the property, and limits to local utility services, but it’s worth knowing in advance.

自我介绍

I am a real estate broker and investor. I enjoyed a 30 year career in commercial real estate and asset management. In 2000, I started my own commercial real estate company, and eventually owned two commercial brokerage and property management companies in San Diego. When we lived in San Diego, we purchased a French Victorian home in the charming gold rush town of Julian California, about an hour outside San Diego. We loved it so much that we turned it into a vacation rental so other dog parents could vacation in the mountains with their pups. It was a beloved vacation home, with guests returning year after year. A movie was filmed onsite, and we have many wonderful memories from our time there. We decided to repeat that great experience when we moved to Oregon in 2013, and have been buying and renovating homes on the Oregon coast since 2015. I am so lucky to be doing what I love to do. While the sales process is going on, I haunt my favorite thrift and consignment stores looking for wonderful pieces that I can restore for use in our vacation rentals. We always buy some items new: mattresses, linens, TVs, appliances, etc., but I love the character and unique personality that a stunning vintage item provides. I also love restoring furniture. During the renovation process, I live in the house. This is both so I can work on the property, and even more importantly, get a feel for the house and the neighborhood. I get to know my neighbors, the mailman, meet the neighborhood pups and their owners, and see what time each day the sun shines into different rooms. The house and I begin to communicate. Through the renovation and design process, I get a deep sense of the home and the neighborhood. When we are done, the property gets a name. The names are indicative of both the location and the nature of the home. Yaquina Bay Club is serene and elegant, while Yaquina Surf Camp is fun and funky. Once the property goes on the vacation rental market, I try to stay at each of my homes at least once a quarter. It is important to see things from a guest’s perspective, so that our homes continue to be places where wonderful memories are made. Since I have lived in and renovated each home, these are definitely more than investments. These are homes I have lived in and love, and I hope this comes through to our guests. It is also fascinating to see the difference in these homes from the time we buy them to what they are today. Most of the homes that we purchase are foreclosures, estate sales, distressed sales, etc. All of them sat sad, vacant and unloved for a long time. When I first walk through a distressed home, it feels cold and forlorn. Now the homes are happy, cared for and loved, and you can feel it the moment you walk in the door. Some are calm and serene, some are classic beach family fun, but all are happy and welcoming. I would live in any of these homes in a heartbeat. I guess that's why I bought them in the first place. But I really love sharing them with our guests and their friends and families. Welcome!
