The Adventurous
Hiking alone is almost an endless activity here in Central Virginia and one of the best ways to enjoy the beautiful Virginia geology. There are many trails to choose from.
Historic Sites in the Area:
The greater Charlottesville area is steeped in historical events and the homes of the men who created them; Monticello the home of Thomas Jefferson, Founding Father, 3rd President, Governor of Virginia to name just a few of his many titles and the author of the Declaration of Independence. Montpelier the home of James Madison, 4th President, Delegate, Secretary of State during Jefferson’s term and Father of the Constitution. Ash Lawn-Highland the home of James Monroe, 5th President, Governor of Virginia, Secretary of State during Madison’s term, advocate of a foreign policy that later would be named “The Monroe Doctrine”.
Then just 36 years later Central Virginia again became a crucible of historic changes, the Civil War. The Northern Army of the Potomac and the Army of Virginia fought each other up and down the State of Virginia. Throughout the war they continued to battle each other, as they went, the famous battle fields in the area with names like; The 1st and 2nd Battles of Bull Run, Battle of the Wildness and Chancellorsville, New Market, Battle of Seven Pines, The Seven Days Battles and many others finally ending at Appomattox Courthouse.
Wine, Beer, Cider & Distilleries
Thomas Jefferson recognized that the Central Virginia climate was ideal for growing grape vines and he loved his French wines, so he tried to start a vineyard but failed. George Washington was the largest distiller in the country at the time. Moonshine NASCAR and the Virginia Appalachian Mountains all go hand in hand. Virginia and alcohol have a long history and today they’ve got it right we have some of the best wine, beer, cider and whiskey.
We are in a rural area north of Charlottesville there is no mass public transportation. We are only minutes from Charlottesville/Albemarle Airport. Also available; taxi service, private shuttle/limo service, Uber and Lift.
