Clovelly Cottage is a traditional granite cottage full of original artwork and colour. It has spectacular views to St Michael's Mount from the two rear bedrooms and has a private garden. Parking is easy in the small hamlet and the cottage is just 15 minutes walk along quiet lanes to Mousehole, arguably Cornwall's prettiest fishing village. The coast path, stunning beaches, Minack Theatre and prehistoric sites are within easy reach, making it an ideal base for exploring this unique landscape. Clovelly Cottage is a spacious and comfortable three bedroomed granite cottage, built in 1852, with a huge fireplace and wood burning stove. It is over flowing with original paintings, textile art and mosaics, making for a truly unique holiday experience. It has two double bedrooms, both with spectacular views across Mount’s Bay and a single front bedroom which looks over fields to high moorlands beyond. The cottage is surrounded by delightful countryside and offers easy access to local footpaths, the coast path and the amenities of Mousehole, Newlyn and Penzance. Parking is usually possible immediately outside the cottage, in a large layby. There is a good sized living room with exposed granite walls and massive granite fireplace. The kitchen/dining area is well equipped with fan oven, grill, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There are two toilets and the bath has an electric shower above it. The large rear conservatory is a delightful space for breakfast, quiet reading or an after dinner snooze! Electric heaters are provided in all rooms, except the conservatory. Logs/kindling for the woodburner are widely available in St Buryan or Penzance. Please note that Clovelly Cottage is self-catering – we do provide tea, coffee, milk and biscuits but not breakfast! Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the cottage, including the conservatory and we do not accept pets. Parents of infants and young children should note that there is an exposed wood burner and unguarded stairs. Electric vehicles - please note that it is NOT permitted to charge electric vehicles at the cottage. We absolutely loved our stay. John popped by to say hello when we arrived, and provided lots of helpful recommendations for paddleboarding. The cottage itself was reminiscent of the holidays of our childhood - and the sea views from the bedroom were beautiful, especially on sunny days! If you have the chance to stay here, definitely do - we will be back :)
We had a great stay, despite the weather this week. The cottage exceeded our expectations - it was a lovely cosy retreat to return to at the end of the day and bigger than it looks in the photos. Thank you!
Gorgeous cottage — love the original decor and all the cats! — with everything you need, including some provisions kindly left by the hosts. Jane and John were great with the comms via Airbnb and it was easy to get into the cottage using the key box. Great to have the garden to sit out in the evening sun and enjoy a drink or two. Mousehole is walkable but if you have dodgy knees or find uphill walking hard (like my mum), I’d suggest taking your car (there are a couple of car parks on either side of the harbour). Our favourite restaurant was No. 2 Fore St in Mousehole. Argoe in Newlyn very good too. Rather than buying lobster in a restaurant though (crazily expensive!) we got a couple from Stevenson W & Sons in Newlyn — would definitely recommend.
Very lovely, welcoming and well looked after, great location to explore the area. Many thanks
Although there are no shops in the small hamlet, Clovelly Cottage is within easy reach of Mousehole, Penzance and St Buryan. Take a 15 minute walk across fields or along quiet lanes to Mousehole, then walk the rugged coast path to Lamorna and beyond. Alternatively, walk or cycle along the seafront to Newlyn and Penzance.
It's a 5 minute walk along a quiet lane to the pub in Paul (take a torch!). The famous Ship Inn in Mousehole and several restaurants are about a 20 minute walk (or 5 minute drive) from the cottage. Newlyn's busy fishing harbour is just a 5 minute drive - enjoy a pub meal, fish & chips or a visit to its new studio cinema.
Clovelly Cottage is an ideal base for exploring nearby attractions like the stunning beaches at Porthcurno and Sennen Cove, the Minack Theatre, St Ives and St Michael's Mount. It's close to the NT garden at Trengwainton. Inland, the wild moorland landscape of West Penwith hosts some of Britain's most iconic prehistoric sites.
You are advised to walk rather than drive if visiting Mousehole! The coast path leads to Lamorna and beyond and is truly spectacular. There is a delightful sea front walk to Newlyn and Penzance from Mousehole as well. There is a regular bus service through the village to Land's End and Penzance.
