I stayed at Accolade for 2 weeks. The place is truly amazing!! And Kevin is an awesome host. I’m very grateful and honoured I was able to stay there. Accolade will be my place to stay whenever I visit Cape Breton from now on!

Great host and a great location. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean and warm, even as it cooled down to under 5 degrees at night.

Kevin's place is not for everyone. In fact, I suspect it may not even be for most people. If you're looking for a simple place to rest your head for the evening as you travel the Cabot trail, I recommend looking elsewhere. However, if you have ample patience, are good at following instructions, and are open to learning way more about your Airbnb host than you could ever wish to know, then this is the place for you. To make things brief, what I liked were: The really cute barn that has been impressively restored into one of the most unusual yet homely living spaces I've ever seen. The comfy bed (seriously it was really comfy!). Kevin's cleanliness and attention to detail - you could literally lick off any of the surfaces it was so clean. What I didn't like: Kevin's attention to detail - you were asked to leave everything as it was, 3 strikes and you're out, no joke! The immediate threat of being denied entry and a constant undercurrent fear of being thrown out. The lengthy check-in process that consisted of me standing outside for 20 minutes trying to get his attention (phoning, knocking, etc.) and then 30+ minutes of listening to him talk. Finally, Kevin's grandiose, self-indulgent ramblings ranging in scope from his personal life, to encounters with bouncers and police at a bar, to the greatness of his business, to odd conspiracy theories involving AI, Covid-19, Hitler and the cold war, and more. I did my best to be patient, follow instructions, and be a model guest. I barely touched anything and kept my time at the hostel brief. On the whole my experience was fine, just not at all what I expected; it's unlikely that I'll forget it anytime soon! ;D
