Une Vue de la Corniche is a 4 bedroom 19th century farmhouse on a 3.5 hectares estate called Rachat, on a ridge overlooking the Pyrenees on the borders of Haute Garonne, Haute Pyrenees and the Gers in rural SW France. The property is intended to be a tranquil place to inspire, re-energise and relax. We respect diversity and inclusion and wholeheartedly welcome guests from all backgrounds and cultures, but it is a child-free zone. This is the first year we have decided to let you into the big house-our home - for the two months of July and August. We usually let the gite, also “Une Vue de la Corniche”, but we now have a guardian for the property and animals, called Craig, who will also be there to meet and greet you. However, the gite is independent and away from the house and you will have complete privacy. On entering the property through the gates, there is short drive up to the house. Parking can be on the left by the animals, or up at the house. Through the main door, to the right, is the salon, with 3 -piece suite, log burner, beams and outlook to the mountains. Opposite, is a similar sized room which has a double sofa bed and desk space. There is a handy downstairs toilet under the stairs in the hallway which leads to the large open plan well-equipped kitchen/diner with bi-fold doors leading out to the terrace with coffee tables and chairs to relax and enjoy the fabulous mountain view. To the left of the kitchen is the utility room with large washing machine, drying racks, iron, ironing board and a walk-in shower/toilet room. There is also a boot and coat area and back door leading into the large barn and summer kitchen. Here you have cool shade on a hot summer's day, dining table and chairs, fridge, dishwasher, sink and cooker. The barn area also has a sofa and hammocks for chilling out and enjoying the views. Going back to the back door, you will find stairs leading up to the mezzanine, which has French windows looking out across the barn and into the valley. Here there is a TV with aerial for French TV, table and chairs, sofas to relax. A door leads into a corridor to the back bedrooms of the house, one having 3 single beds and the other 2 divans which can be joined to make a large double and there is a single bed. These rooms share a family bathroom with twin hand basins and large shower-bath. To the front of the house are 2 more double bedrooms both with ensuite walk-in shower rooms and walk in wardrobes. From the bi-fold doors in the kitchen, a short pathway leads down steps, through a garden to the 10m x 5m salt water pool which has a liner and is the same depth of 1.7m throughout. There is a terrace, decked area and pool furniture. The pool is not heated, but can reach 26 degrees in the height of summer! It is very private with great views. We give priority to guests to use the pool between 10am and 9pm and respect their privacy, but it may be used discreetly by Craig when house guests are NOT present. This can be discussed on arrival. There is plenty of space around the pool with sun loungers and parasols. Please bring your own pool towel. Back towards the entrance gates, past the pool and gite, are our 2 donkeys and 5 goats on the left and a recently adopted horse and donkey on the right. They all love human contact and the occasional bite-size carrot or apple if you really want to make friends! You can walk through the fields and bond with the animals-just always please close the gates :-) We also have 2 cats who spend most of their time outside, are a bit timid of humans, but will know to come home to the gite at feeding time. Red kites are a common sight here as are many other beautiful wildlife.
Neighbourhood description
Our property is in the Comminge countryside, a few kilometres from the Gers, Ariège or Hautes-Pyrénées. Set on a ridge facing stunning views of the fields, valley and Pyrenees chain, we are on the outskirts of a small, sleepy hamlet. All amenities are within easy driving distance. The nearest town is Boulogne-sur-Gesse, 10 mins drive away, a pretty market town which has 2 supermarkets, 2 bakers, a butcher, pharmacy, newsagent, 2 bars, petrol station, bank/cash machine and a variety of options for eating out. There is also a fantastic large open-air swimming pool with 3 pools of varying shapes and sizes and a chute. This is beside a boating lake with picnic area, tennis courts, pitch and put.
15 minutes drive to Castelnau Magnoac another lovely market town, you will find a lake that you can walk around with a pontoon and beach/swimming area and not far from there, a wildlife lake for enthusiasts of ornithology. There is also an airport for flying and parachuting! 15 minutes in the other direction, is Lac de la Gimone, gorgeous for swimming, kayaking, relaxing and a good cafe.
There are many options for walking locally, though if you feel like doing something more strenuous, there are plenty of bracing walks and cycling opportunities in the Pyrenees, as well as beautiful natural spas, only an hour away. The Tour de France has passed close by in previous years during the Pyrenean mountain stages, through the medieval hill-top town of Aurignac and more recently, directly through Castelnau Magnoac. Many nearby towns hold weekly markets, and you can find one every day of the week, if you love markets!
