I have stayed here a few times. While rustic, the personalized service is superb. They have been investing in making it better each year. The staff is very personable and friendly.

We stayed in the Victorian room which looked just like the picture. Jason is out of the country so Amy took good care of us. There is no AC upstairs so we used a box fan and had the window open to cool the room down. I did get bit by a number of mosquitoes during my stay so bring repellant. The staff was friendly and welcoming. If you get a chance to done in their restaurant you won't be disappointed. We ordered the Tomahawk steak with all the fixings and it was delicious. The portions are hearty and a yummy brownie sundae for two was included. The Horse Prairie isn't the fanciest place to stay by far but you do get immersed in the Montana Cowboy culture and that's something you won't get at the Hilton.

This is an authentic Montana experience. The hosts are so genuine and kind; it was like visiting a caring aunt. The food in the saloon was of good quality and generous portions. Decor and ambiance was just what you hope for (huge fireplace, harnesses and mountain goat on the wall, rodeo on the big TV, singer channeling Hank Williams Jr., etc). The room was quiet, clean bedding, nice full bathroom, good view of the mountains. A fan helps cool this upstairs room.
