We enjoyed a restful New Year weekend in this cozy cottage. The surrounding nature, woodburning stove, very comfy beds and couches, spacious kitchen and dining room, outdoor grill, and general ambiance — all these elements we appreciated so much during our 3-night staycation.
Laura was so helpful leading up to our stay and the home exceeded our expectations — so clean, organized, decorated nicely, cozy and helpful. I highly recommend this property!
Loved staying at Laura’s place for a night away from the city with friends. The house is beautifully decorated and we loved eating outside, using the outdoor fire pit and wood burning fire. The kitchen was very well set up for cooking for a group, and the bedrooms were very comfortable. Very clean, easy to contact the host and great for getting away from it all and being in nature. The surrounding landscape is beautiful. We followed Laura’s directions for picking up provisions on our way as it’s not near a shop, and that suited us fine. Really enjoyed stopping in Rensselaerville on our way home and seeing the falls! Hope to be back!
the place was very cute and spacious and loved the fire place! instructions to check in was smooth and easy. Location was a bit far from everything and kind of in the middle of nowhere but for a last minute booking, this was the closest we could find to Catskills area that was clean and hard enough beds. overall a really good stay.
This is exactly what we were looking for — a peaceful, private stay that's only ~3 hours away from NYC. Laura was very communicative and checked in with us during our stay to ensure that everything was perfect. The house is stylish and comfortable, and we especially loved stretching out in front of the fireplace after a rewarding hike to a nearby waterfall. Next time we'll come back with twice as many friends!
Although located in the Berne, NY zip code, the house is on a quiet, pretty road just outside the hidden-gem historic town of Rensselaerville. In this village is a gorgeous waterfall visible from a short, accessible path. The waterfall is within the 2,000-acre Huyck Preserve, with 25 miles of trails for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. The protected wetlands across the road from the house are also part of the Huyck, and state forest surrounds the area.
The town also has a playground and pickleball courts, a historic library for adults and kids, a town hall with regular events, a pop-up farm market cafe, and the Carey Institute for Global Good estate.
In the summertime, the peaceful Myosotis Lake has a small beach and swimming area served by a lifeguard as well as a picnicking area. The lake is a 5-minute drive; lake passes are available upon request for a ~$50 fee. Notify us as far in advance as possible so we can secure you a pass.
There are panoramic views across the region as well a summer adventure course in nearby Thacher State Park and the super fun Greenville Drive-In (seasonal). Windham and Hunter mountains are also easily accessible for skiing and snowboarding.
The region is only accessible via car. Our gravel driveway can hold 1–6 cars.
