We loved our stay at Quail Cottage (although we never did see any quail). So many windows letting in light. At night the peace and quiet, the darkness, the comfortable bed--all encouraging a deep and refreshing sleep. Somehow, too, just knowing Judith was next door was a comfort. I've never been to an Airbnb that literally had all the comforts of home: coffee beans and a grinder, a french press, pots and pans that weren't "cast-offs" (we made a delicious stew in the Emile Henry dutch oven), a generously sized refrigerator, welcoming treats of chocolate and cookies, a real table for enjoying meals and/or teatime, bath salts and a luxurious clawfoot tub that my husband could use as "his office," a fold-out lounger I could use as mine...It was easy to make this little house "our home away from home." The one night we ate out, we went to the Coast Cafe in downtown Bolinas. I craved seafood (we now live in New Mexico) and was not disappointed. Best meal on our three-week trip!
Our stay with Judith was rejuvenative in every way. Starting from the drive along the shore from Muir Beach or over the pass to Stinson Beach and the lagoon drive, through the quaint town and along the Bolinas Beach three blocks away, you are constantly drawn to new vistas and the feeling you are living in a timeless paradise. When you enter Judith’s yard, you are met with beautiful flowers and unique trees that surround your cottage with paths and tables; wonderful in all weather as you see these from the windows on every wall inside. We hated to leave the cottage with its beautiful hand-crafted local wood floor, cabinets and bookshelves. The design is perfect with a high wooden ceiling, large bathroom/tub, cozy couch, very comfy bed, and antique dresser all in good proportion so it is cozy and toasty. And her books and local guides opened up the spectacular Pt Reyes National Seashore 30 minutes north. Judith came through for us in numerous ways. We hope to return often!
We loved our week-long stay here! It was cozy, quiet, and comfortable, and the land around it was beautiful and peaceful. The kitchen was well-equipped to make our meals, and Judith left us coffee, tea, and hot chocolate as well as delicious bran muffins from the local Coast Cafe. Loved being able to walk to Agate Beach, and it was a short drive into town & to the surrounding areas. Judith's guidebook was super helpful, with info about places to eat and hike and explore. Judith also went above and beyond to create a fragrance-free environment for me, which I deeply appreciate. We loved the cottage and Bolinas - look forward to returning.
What a peaceful place to spend a couple of months. The spirit of Bolinas is alive and well at Judith’s cottage. The space is warm and cozy, the yard is peaceful. It’s fun to spot the quail when they pass through. Judith herself is there when you need her - she is also a wealth of knowledge about native plants. Staying near the seed store was amazing for me as an aspiring gardener. The cottage is in a great spot on the mesa, and you can easily walk to the main town area or agate beach. I had such a nice time, I didn’t want to leave :)
We had a fantastic stay at Judith’s place. Bolinas is a dream. The cabin is charming, private, and provides a comfortable and lovely base for enjoying the most beautiful surroundings and unique community! Judith is a wonderful host. We are already dreaming of another stay!

Judith has been the proprietor of Larner Seeds, specialists in California native plants and seeds, for the last 35 years. She designed the Quail House to be in a private part of our Demonstration Garden of all California native plants, part of an opportunity to give people the experience of living comfortably in a "habitat restoration garden." She lives on the property with her husband Peter, both fervent explorers of California's many beautiful places. They welcome to their place others who are similarly engaged. She is happy to interact with you, or not, depending on your wishes. A desire for total privacy is easily accommodated, yet they are nearby if needed. Airbnb requested the naming of five things she can't live without: quiet, the ocean, California wildflowers and native flora, this beloved small town, with the best downtown in the US, and a constant supply of interesting books. One more thing - our raspberry patch in May. We are committed to being helpful and sensitive hosts, and will follow your lead as to how much or how little interaction and/or help you want. It varies widely. Judith and Peter find are continually amazed by the interesting and delightful people they've met through hosting the Quail House on Airbnb.
